My daughter got that nasty stomach virus that is going around and still is having diarrea(sp?). she now has a bad diaper rash bc of the diarrea, during the day I change her as soon as i know she has gone, but what she is doing is going at night and sleeping in it. I can tell bc it is all dried up on to her little bottom. I have been using desitin creamy and it seems to work ok but it keeps coming back. I am just wondering if there is anything else I can do or if I just have to wait it out?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well we made it! As of Christmas eve no more diarrea and her rash is almost gone. Really I used a mixture of a few suggestions. Cream and powder every change, That athletes foot stuff 2 times a day, lots of baths, let her run around in the buff to let her bum get some air, and checking her 2 times before we went to bed. thank you all fo all the great help!

I have five children and two of them at one time or another had bad diaper rashes. It looked like someone had rubbed them raw. The first time this happened I took my child to the doctor and he recommended me to use Lotrim Antifungal Cream. It's for athelet's feet, jock itch, and ringworm. At first I was afraid to use it but when I did I was amazed. After using it the first day the rash was almost completly gone and buy the end of the secound day it was gone. Walgreens has a store brand called Clotrimazole. You should give it a try. It's with the foot care products.

In my experience a bath is a great way to dry out the area and sooth the little. Some other things to do or keep in mind are once you put the butt cream on(like Dr. Brown's)shake some corn starch in the diaper and on the area. Because the area has been so damp she may have a fugas(sp) rash now--little red bumps. I put an antifugial cream on the area then--like a jock itch cream or monistat (sp). Good luck!!!

This is a great diaper rash recipe given to me by my pediatrician. I hope it helps cure your baby's diaper rash as it has my daughter's many of times.

-Vaseline aprrox. 1.5 oz or 35g
-Lotrimin AF (clomtrimazole cream).42 oz or 12g
-Maalox (I chose the mint b/c couldn't find the original) for desired consistency

Mix well and store in a container. This is the best. It will heal the rash rather than just acting as a barrier to moister. Good luck.

C., Two things....one: I use Arbonne Baby Care Diaper Rash cream, it is awesome! You can order it at www.arbonne.com. Two: it may be a yeast infection. You might take her to the doctor to make sure. If it is a yeast infection, they can prescribe something to clear it up. My daughter had one and they gave her something that started with an 'N'...don't remember the name...but it cleared it up right away. Good luck!

A great thing to do during the day is to let it air out as much as possiable, meaning letting her go diaperless for awhile. We have done this with diaper rashes, and it seems to help (we lay down a bunch of towels in the area she plays at to catch any messes). Good Luck.

Once your baby has a rash, you probably need to treat it with something like Budreaux's buttpaste or a combination of a&d ointment and balmex works real well. But to avoid the rash when they have diarrea (sp?), my doctor's nurse said just buy a big tub of the cheap petroleum jelly (vaseline) at the dollar store and just put a real thick coating of that on their bottom at each diaper change until the diarrea stops. It's cheap and effective according to her. Good luck!

I strongly, strongly recommend Aquaphor healing lotion. It can be found in the diaper rash ointment aisle or with the hand lotions..... put a thick coat of that on the site and then on top of that put a coat of your diaper rash cream (Desitin or whatever you use).....
That Aquaphor is a barrier and a healing ointment. You'll see an improvement at the next diaper change.
My son has had it so bad that little bleeding welts formed on his toushy and then I put this stuff on with the diaper cream and it was almost 100% better at the next diaper change. amazing stuff! Now I keep a tube around the house at all times.

Our boy's skin was so raw one time he would cry & we had to put him in his bathtub filled with cool water to calm him down. Okay don't laugh but I bought a $10 ultra-quiet hair dryer at Walgreens & blow dried his butt extra dry, on cool setting, every diaper change. Tried all the creams too and a thick layer of the Triple Paste (white with blue writing) worked the best for us. Also, use cotton balls dipped in water to wipe instead of regular wipes which irritates the skin. I like the petrolium jelly idea too.

I use Arbonne's Baby Care Herbal Diaper Rash Cream. It really does work well and like all of Arbonne's products it is botanically based, hypoallergenic, dermatologist tested, and free of mineral oil, animal products or by-products. I would be happy to give you a sample if you would like to try it. Let me know if you are interested.

Beaudreax Butt Paste is a God send, best stuff on the market. Sold at Walmart in a yellow and white box. Also it helps to use the diaper ointment at every diaper change wether or not she is rashed out until the diarrea clears up.

My son has being going thru the same thing. If you go to Walgreens, in the baby section, there is an ointment called Triple Paste. Blue lettering and white box. This stuff is a miracle worker. It runs about 9.99 for a small tube, but it's worth it's weight in gold.
Hope she feels better soon.

use the buttpaste or balmex, just lather it on before you put her to bed and every diaper change. People always say to keep the diaper off but I have never done that, all you can do is lather it up and wait until it goes away. Buttpaste and Balmex are the best.

Diaper rash is simply caused by the stool or urine setting on the skin for to long. Since your child is having the diarrhea during the night, I would recommend that you set your alarm to wake up at least two times during the night to check if a diaper change needs to be done. This will give you the opportunity to clean your daughter and apply more cream to the irritated areas. This will keep you from sleeping, but it should help the rash. Good Luck.

Hi, I was wondering if you daughter had been on any antibiotics lately? When my son was a baby, I was on an anti-specialist kick, and took him to see our family doctor instead of a pediatrician, and the thing that persuaded me to return to a pedi, was they prescribed him an antibiotic that pretty much killed all the good bacteria in his intestines. This caused him to have horrible diarrhea, and from that, a bad diaper rash. What I did, in addition to all the cremes, was to feed him yogurt. I also gave him a food additive you can get from the pharmacist to put in milk that'll help rebuild those good bacteria. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the additive, but I'm sure a pharmacist should know what I'm talking about. Of course, talk to your pedi first, and find out what they have to say. Hope this helps!

Merry Christmas!

I'm so sorry that your baby is so uncomfortable. Go to Walgreens and buy Dyprotex. It comes in a little box. The diaper ointment is in little pink containers. The box also has little white pads. The little white pads help because you won't have to touch the cream at all. Its a simple yet not so messy solution to your baby's diaper rash!! Good luck!!!
