I just found out last night that I'm pregnant with my 2nd child and we're super excited! I developed gestational diabetes with my first pregancy and was told that it was pretty much a guarantee that I will develop it this time. I'm looking for some good low carb/sugar recipes. Trying to eat healthier & exercise to prevent it as long as possible. I'm especially interested in breakfast ideas and snacks. My usual bagel, cereal, oatmeal isn't going to cut it. On days that I'm not working I cook breakfast, but I have to be at work by 7:30 so don't have much time for cooking most mornings. Thanks for your help!!

What can I do next?

Congratulations S.!!!! Check out my website www.healthylife.shrinkathon.com. Don't worry - you won't neccessarily lose weight. But you can download all kinds of low glycemic recipes for free. I also have other ideas and documents on healthy things. I hope you are taking mercury free fish oil. I have an awesome document on that if you'd like it. Just email me at ____@____.com and I can share some information on pregnancy and how to be the healthiest you can be before and after. Eating low glycemic will help you and your whole family, and you are fortunate because you can start that new baby off eating the right way so as not to fall into that 1 in 3 kids that develop Type II diabetes!

Again, congratulations!!! N.

Hello S.,

Congratulations on your 2nd pregnancy. Let me recommend a couple of websites that will help you with healthy recipes. www.rawfoods.com and www.hacres.com there you'll find many healthy recipes and new ways of eating fruit and vegetables. You don't have to become a vegetarian to enjoy new vegetable recipes. Stay away from artificial sweeteners. God Bless! ~C.~

Hi S.,

We have controlled my Dad's diabetes with the glycemic index for over 45 years. Google it. It identifies what is high glycemic, medium glycemic and low glycemic. Low glycemic is best but you can throw in something that is medium if you eat it with a couple of low glycemic foods. There are many recipes on the web. Our family eats this way all the time and Jenny Craig and Nutrisystems have adopted it as well.

Congratulations!

I had gestational diabetes with my first child (now 14) and last year I was diagnosticed with diabetes. I've never used any "diabetic recipes". I just make well balanced meals that are low in carbs, and lots of veggies. I also found that beans were a good alternative to meat dishes.

For breakfast try an omelette. I also used to eat apple slices with low fat peanut butter. Try adding some raisins or cut up apples to the oatmeal.

For snacks - veggies with a yogurt based dip, 1/2 container of yogurt (some brands have more sugar than others), homemade chex mix with a few peanuts, sugar free jello, sugar free pudding (takes a while to get used to).
