Terra Cotta pot
Acrylic paint (stamp ink may bleed and not be waterproof).
Permanent ink marker.
Acrylic paint is best... it is waterproof once it dries. I have done that and used acrylic paint.
One day a mom posted something on here about a decorated flower pot for a teacher. I thought it would be a great idea for the lead teacher I work with, but can't figure out what materials to use.
It's basically a flower pot and the kids stamp their fingerprints on it. Then I (or the kids-haven't decided) would write their name and I would make the print into a bug.
What kind of pot? (terra cotta?)
Regular stamp ink?
What kind of pen or marker?
Do I decoupage it afterwards?

i would use terra cotta, one of the metallic sharpies, and stamp ink that will show up on the terra cotta :). for mothers day a few years ago my daycare made a terra cotta mother's day pot for me that had plaster on the outside and then they put the clear large rock things that you can put in jars and fish tanks. then they planted impatience or something like that. it was pretty, and i still have it.
I once spray painted a flower pot with chalk board paint. It's great because you can color/write in various colors according to the season and holiday. Just another idea to go along with the handprints...
What a cute idea. I did something like this with my class of first graders last year for mother's day.
We used terra cotta pots, tempra paint, and metalic sharpies to write a little note. We didn't put anything over the painting.
After we decorated, we put coffee beans in the pots (for a good smell) and then took three pens and wrapped them in green fabric tape and put fake flower tops on top of the pens and made it pen holders. When we did the same kind of thing for a colleague we added a few $5 gift cards to local places that she might enjoy on floral picks to stick with the theme and make it a little nicer of a gift. :)
A terra cotta pot is best. It will absorb and hold what you paint on it.
A Sharpie marker would be fine to write with but I'm not sure how well it would last.
Acrylic paint or even nail polish should work fine and last a long time - you could paint flowers on the pot.
I like using paint pens for this project. They are easier to control. I also used terra cotta pots. I love these with herbs.
I did this last year... terra cotta pots. At Michaels they sold special paint and markers especially for clay pots and they worked great.
Really great idea. I did it at last time. .. terra cotta pots. I also used terra cotta pots, tempra paint, and metalic sharpies to write a little note.

I have bought all kinds of instruction books for crafts with pots at Hobby Lobby in the paint section, craft paints, not oils. There are so many ideas too. Very cute ones.
