Dealing with Non-drop Side Crib

So now that drop sides are out ( fully understand why!) with my second child I'm having a hard time getting my 5 month old into it without setting her off. She was fine with the crib from about 2 months to 4 months. Any tips and tricks out there helping baby adjust to crib sleeping, especially when they hate the "drop" into the crib no matter how slow I try to lay her down. I'm also finding it difficult to use the pick-up put down method from Baby Whisperer with the higher sides and I need some good non-CIO alternatives. Looking into the No-Cry Sleep Solution as I speak. Ideas? Anybody out there dealing with the same issues?

What can I do next?

Maybe getting a stool to set beside her crib so you can step up and not have to "drop" her into bed. You might try warming a towel in the dryer and putting it in place while you are rocking her and then removing it as you lay her down. My brother and SIL used a hot water bottle for this purpose and removed it of course before leaving baby alone. No Cry Sleep Solution is a decent book with some good ideas, I also like www.askdrsears.com for ideas about sleep. I always tried to rock my kids until their arms and legs were completely limp before transferring them because then you know they are in deep sleep. Best wishes.

Honestly if I had another baby, I would still be using my drop side. I am just too short. If I really could not use it I would either saw the legs off my crib or use a step stool.

simple, babies respond to smell, when you lay the baby down to sleep, take off the shirt, sweater, whatever you are wearing for a shirt, and drape it around the baby as you are laying them down, you will hear them sigh, then snuggle into the shirt, sweater, whatever, then they will relax and doze off completely when you lay them down.just make sure that the shirt or whatever doesnt cover their face or neck, and they are not allergic to it.

There are now cribs where there is a joint high up on the side so it folds down. I believe something like 'Safe T Side'.

I am sooo glad my son was an infant in the days of the drop side. My back would never have made it.

Have a blanket around your babies back and as you lower them down, use the blanket to avoid the quick "drop" into the crib. Hope that helps.

I'm short and I used a stepstool. It helped me get the reach I wanted to get DD into the crib. I also kept the mattress high as possible for as long as possible. You can also try laying a hand on her back before you pick her up and seeing if your presence in itself will comfort her.

I have fibromyalgia and have to try and minimize pain all the time, so when he was younger and in his crib i used a wide stool to step up on (didn't want to move the side up and down and wake him) and I never "dropped" him in, just laid him down.
