Daughter Throws up After Taking Vitamins and Chewable Tylenol.

I've noticed my daughter having a bit of congestion and a runny nose so trying to catch it before its in full effect I gave her some tylenol and a flinstones multi-vitamin. She threw up a few minutes after taking them. I am wondering if it was that she took them before she ate dinner? She ate nearly all of her dinner after. Input?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

My daughter snacks all day so her stomach wasn't completely empty. And she told me her body hurts which is why she got the Tylenol.

Take it after eating, as with most vitamins, adult or child.

Tylenol is not needed. She does not have a fever.

The combination, of vitamin and Tylenol would make me gag and throw up too. That would have been hard on the stomach and taste wise too.

Most likely the iron in the vitamin...makes me puke too :/ Take AFTER eating & it's much better. No worries.

Yes, maybe the combo made her gag (?)
Not sure why you're giving tylenol for congestion/runny nose. My doctor doesn't want us to use it at all unless there's severe discomfort or high fever. You should probably check with your doctor before using medication in a preventative way, I'm pretty sure that's not a good idea as your child builds up an immunity to tylenol over time and it becomes ineffective when it's actually needed.

Could be, many vitamins suggest you take them AFTER food is eaten.

Has she done this before? It's been a while since my kids took the vitamens, maybe read on the label if it says take with food. I dont think the tylenol would do it, alot of times when kids have fevers they take it and you know when they are really not feeling well and have the fever you cant get much down them anyways. You say she is congested, when she threw up did she have alot of mucus. Sometimes if they have alot of mucus in their tummies all it takes is a trigger, like swallowing to make them vomit it up. Hope you figure it out and she feels better soon!

Probably the vitamin. If I take a vitamin before a meal rather than after I get very sick to my stomach.

I have to be careful when I take my vitamins. They can be hard on the stomach. I would suggest letting her have them while she is eating, with plenty of water. Let her have a little something in her tummy to help absorb and break down the vitamins so she can digest them.

Just my opinion.

I'd give the vitamins and meds after a meal or during, not on an empty stomach.

It was probably the combo of an empty tummy with nothing but phlegm in it, and the vitamins and medicine. If these are new meds to her maybe she has an allergy to something in them.

I agree with the other moms that talked about the tylenol. Did she have body aches or a high fever? If not, skip the tylenol next time.

Anyone can have a sour stomach and meds/vitamins can irritate the situation.
Taking them after dinner would have been better.
We still take Flintstones and there's nothing wrong with them.
Bake anything in a oven long enough and it'll char.

Generally, vitamins should be taken with or after a meal.
I would also suggest you give her something better than Flinstones. Those are what I was giving my oldest son until I realized they are mostly coal tar and sugar. If you don't believe that, bake one in the oven for 10 minutes and see what oozes out of it.

It's possible that the combination that was in her stomach just didn't agree with her. Was there a lot of mucus in the vomit? Indicating swallowing a lot of postnasal drip?

My kids always vomited up the Flintstones because those things have too much food dye in them. We had to switch to Gummi Vites, which taste much better and aren't sugary. Plus they're allergen free.

I also would NOT have given her Tylenol simply for some body aches. You risk masking an oncoming fever or other issues prior to the symptoms showing up, symptoms you would need to know about later.

Anyway, one way or another her body rejected what you gave her for a reason. I might suggest finding dye-free versions of those products AND waiting longer before you give her things like that in your effort to head things off at the pass.

Chewable Tylenol has made my daughter throw up a couple of times. She stopped taking it after the second time.

An empty stomach would make it worse, yes.
