J.,
If your daughter is BF, then I do not believe she has a intolerance to milk. Augmentum is a good formula for those that suffer from GERD and other problems. But, if you took her off of dairy and she still did not have a problem, I find it hard to believe she is has problems with dairy. She may be going through a bug. Be careful with Pedialyte and Gatorade. They contain artificial color, flavor and preservatives. These ingredients can cause more diarrhea. We suffered with this dilemma unfortunately for 3 months with my first son(8 years ago). He had it so bad his poor little butt was raw, red, rushed and he was in a ton of pain. About one week after taking him off the Gatorade and Pedialyte, he was back to normal. But, by that time we had also taken him off the formula and switched to Whole Milk. I do not think you need to worry about getting her the formula so much at 11 months old. Of course, she needs it, but with her sickness, it may be best to just back off for a few days and allow her just water and the starchy foods so her gut can heal itself. (You can also check out the Laleche league site for articles on food allergies and such. They have some really great resources).
Next... I would recommend you putting your daughter on Probiotics. This is how I have told my kids about it and what they tell others. Your gut.... is made up of good bacteria and bad bacteria. Probiotics are the good bacteria. Lets call the bacteria... soldiers. So, you have good soldiers and you have bad soldiers. When you take probiotics you are increasing the good soldiers allowing them to fight off the bad soldiers. This in turn helps with your digestion. Better digestion leads to better absorption of minerals, nutrients, vitamins and sugars that our bodies require. Our entire family takes probiotics (among other things)everyday. I also use a tsp of it in my daughters bath once a week. She takes 1/2 tsp of Acidophilus in her morning milk each morning.
My brother in law suffered from Colitis for most of his childhood and adult life. For 5 years we have been asking him to supplement with Probiotics and 2 years ago finally got him to do it. Now, he rants and raves about how much it has helped him. He has not had any problems since he has been talking it and it finally willing to listen to me more about other Multivatims, herbs, and natural healing remedies for things.
So, HTH. Good luck, Keep us posted on the outcome of things for your daughter. Please feel free to email me with any questions, concerns, help or just a shoulder to lean on.
