Has anyone had these procedures done before? I had them done 13 days ago and I am still have a small amount of discharge. I was just wondering how long I should expect it to last. Also I would like to know what to expect on my follow-up visit with by OB/GYN in a few weeks. Thanks

So What Happened?

I want to thank everyone out there that has responded! I actually feel "normal" knowing that so many women have been thru this procedure and know where I am coming from. Thanks again!!

Hi S.. I had 3 D&C's all from miscarriages and that sounds pretty normal to me. I think mine lasted about 4 weeks. If you have questions I would ask your doctor. That's what you pay them for=) Good luck.

Hi S.,

I had the ablation and am happier than I've ever been. I'm a 43 yo mom of 5 and I believe that it's the greatest procedure I've ever done for myself. Now, to answer your question, i had slight discharge for about 6 weeks following the procedure....but it stopped and for the past 6 months I've had nothing and it's been the greatest!!!

I would say "hang in there"....think about it as the "storm before the calm" unless you have funny odor or lots of clotting, it will just take a little time!

Good Luck and CONGRATS!!!!! I recommend albation to EVERY PERSON I MEET who has any "problems" in that area......

I had mine done last May (2007). I am sure your discharge is normal - I would imagine it should taper off in the next few days. If it doesn't - I would give my ob/gyn a call. Prior to my procedure I had been on my period for over a MONTH! I still get a period - but they are random and only last one day - they are now about every other month, which I can live with. I know when it's coming because I get one signal - breast tenderness, no other typical signs (bloating, irritability, headaches, etc) Another gal here where I work had hers done in December of 2006 and she hasn't had a period for 9 months.
On my follow-up visit, my doc just asked me how things were going - didn't even do an exam - but everyone's doc is different.

I had that procedure done when I was 48 because of extremely heavy periods (I was anemic and had clotting problems, so it was a blessing). The discharge will go away. What they failed to tell me (and I didn't know to ask) was that I wouldn't have any more periods. WHAT A BLESSING THAT WAS! However, as with anything that seems too good to be real, about 18 months later, I had prolapsed uterus (caused by the procedure), so I ended up having a hysterectomy -- something else I never regretted. Good luck.

HI S.,
I've never had a D&C so I can't help you there. But due to my extreme heavy periods, I'm having the Novasure endometrial ablation done next month. I was told that there would be discharge for a while, some ppl don't have any..so you sound totally normal to me.
My period lasts 7-10 days with the first 3 I am homebound because of being so heavy. I can NOT wait to get this done. I had never heard of it before but my dr brought it up to me since we are sure we are done having kids. I did my research and talked it over with my hubby and we both agreed that if it would made my life happier....we are going for it.
I hope you continue to have a great recovery..I'm sure you'll be fine!

Hi S.,
I had the same procedure in December. I had the discharge for about 4 weeks. My follow-up was done 2 weeks after my surgery and the doctor said everything looked fine. He also emphasized that it would be a good 3-4 months before I saw good results. So far, not so good, but I'm hopeful that soon I will see the good results I had hoped for. Hope you're feeling well!! Take care.

I just had this procedure done last October. My advice to you is to keep an eye on your discharge. If it becomes discolored, smells, itching, burning, or increases you may have an infection. I had this procedure done along with a laproscopy. I had a large cyst on my right ovary and endometrosis on my left ovary, endometrium wall, and bladder. My recovery time was six weeks. I saw the doctor two weeks after the surgery. I was given a full exam because I had an infection. This surgery was great and I am very satisfied. Good Luck.

I have had two d&c's (one as the result of a miscarriage) and it is still fine that you are discharging. You will have a vaginal exam and he/she will just see how you are doing. It shouldn't hurt or be scarey. Remember, if you have any questions or YOU don't feel like it is going "normally" you should call your ob/gyn office and ask your dr. You are paying for a service and you aren't bothering them. THis is a part of your after care.

Had the procedure about a year ago. I had discharge and spotting for 2 1/2 weeks, but if you are worried for any reason, call your doc.
