How do you cut a wiggly, fiesty, squealing toddler's nails? I put her in the carseat and do it, but she hates the experience so much. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

We put on a show that she likes to watch and do it when she is almost ready for bed, or just got out of the bath. The show helps keep her attention off what I am doing, also when I am done I tell her how pretty her nails look.....does the trick everytime.

My 3 year old used to scream when I tried to do her toe nails and even with both my husband and I holding her down I still had trouble.

Then once I told her I wanted to try something really special with her and I sat her on a chair and then I sat on the floor and had her put her foot on my leg. I didn't tell her what I was going to do. Then I had my husband turn her attention away and I clipped the first toe. She didn't even feel it, and then I said see it doesn't hurt when we do it right after the bath. Ever since she has been an angel with it and it never bothers her as long as we do it right after the bath. It makes the nail softer.

HI,

How about when she's sleeping? Works for me.

Try your park district for classes that are play groups.

Good Luck!

I have a 22 month old son. He is a lot harder to keep still now that he is bigger, but I'm still the only one in the family who can safely cut his nails. I use little scissors, not clippers. Lately, we have been doing a counting game during the ordeal. I ask him, "how many fingers does josh have? 1-2-3-4-5!" He gets intrigued, and tends to stay still as I cut his nails and count them one by one. Hope this helps.
