My hubby is the cubmaster this year and is looking to do more fun things with the boys. We have lions (kindergardeners) through arrow of light boys. What have your boys done for fun activities. Also what kind of things does your pack do for fund raising. We did a cack auction last year and one kid was allowed to spend $70 on a cake and we do not want that to happen again as the parent of that boy was very upset. What kind of stuff does your pack do? Thank you!
We do a pancake breakfast it's always a good turn out and the boys serve he food, a carwash is always good too

I know that nature centers offer cheap programs for scout groups that will actually move the kids forward on a badge.
Love the idea of community projects: painting trash cans, Earth Day cleanups, DNR Adopt-a-River program, building nest boxes, trail signage, etc. are awesome. Can you let the kids decide what they want to do? That way the kids may handle more ownership of the project and it will feel less like they're being told to do something.
Editorial: As a parent living in a neighborhood full of scouts, I never buy anything from a grownup. If a kid has the chutzpah to come to my house and be polite (accompanied by a parent who can be quiet and let the kid do his magic is fine), I may write a check to the organization. But I NEVER want the overpriced stuff-popcorn, wrapping paper, candy, etc.
I completely understand the skills in learning how to sell and interact with people. I was a girl scout back in the day when kids went door-to-door to sell cookies on their own!
for fundraising we sold popcorn - did a pancake breakfast, (which requires parent support) Community service projects like clean up the parks- Then
have a snack afterwards. Scavenger hunt in the park.The scout with the most items found wins a prize. Check with your District rep. Maybe the can help you!

Our youth group did a service auction. The kids decide in small groups or pairs what jobs they want to do -- raking, hauling trash, helping with small children, playing games with an elderly person, or whatever they can think of. You auction the boys off and it's up to the winner and the boys as to when they will fulfill the obligation. It's fun, everyone gets help that they need, and you raise a TON of money.

My son's in Boy Scouts & they did a "freeze out".....in January, they camped outside in cardboard "homes" to raise $ for the local homeless shelters! We were so proud of the boys....but I do want to mention our group is all teenagers - I would not recommend this for the little ones!
Put on a massive alluminum can recycling program. Spread the word to friends/families/churches/etc. You'll raise a lot of $$ that way....& will help the boys earn environmental badges!
Ask for donations from local businesses & hold a raffle. We have a biggie going right now & are expected to clear almost $2000 !

I used this for five years of scouting. It had been my favorite. I was a den leader, webelos leader, and cub master wife, which meant I was kind of one two. Good luck
As for money rasing, you really need to look into the tax laws. Cubs scouts are rarely exempt. We used to do cake auctions until we found out is was kind of illegal. We of course did popcorn, and wreaths sales. our pack actually started asking for more money for regestration. Many parents prefered that to having to fund raise.
