Crayons Are the Enemy

While on a recent car trip my "wonderful artists" decided to decorate the car interior with red, yellow, and blue crayons. The interior of course is light tan in color. I'm reading advice such as using WD40. I've already tried removing it by using the iron and towel to draw it out with no luck. What other tips do you have that work? I really hate to try something and make the issue worse given it's in my car.

What can I do next?

I hate to tell you, I had the same problem with a green crayon that melted into the passenger seat of my car (with tan cloth seats) several years ago and I tried a few things and none of them worked. I guess the only payback for my daughter leaving said crayon on the seat is that she is now 16 and this is now her car! With the green stain still on the passenger seat.

Contacting Crayola is a good idea. But I'd also contact the car manufacturer. I'd bet Toyota, GM, Honda et. al. are all very familiar with this type of question and can recommend products to use. You could also ask the local dealership for your car brand whether they will clean it for you -- they may be able to do a better job than any at-home remedies, though it will cost you. It might be worth the price.

Yeah.... I banned crayons in the car LONG ago when one melted on a seat!

I scraped up as much as I could, and I really don't know what I used to clean it up... that was over 20 years ago.....

Most of it did come out, but I think there was always a shadow of it left.

Take it to a professional. Make them sign a guarantee before they take the job.

I don't have a wonderful answer, but try contacting crayola and asking them. Perhaps they have a trick.

I like the ideas of contacting Crayola and the car manufacturer. I would recommend Crayola Colour Wonder markers for use in the care on future trips.

I would try the wd40, but on a small hidden spot first. Test it out and let it dry for 24 hours and see how it looks before doing the entire seat. If that does not work I would take it to a professional.

Professional detailing. It's worth the cost, seriously. Not only will the crayon issue be taken care of for you but you'll regain that nice new-car experience. At least until you let the kids back in. :-D
