Cranky 18 Month Old.

My son seems to be really really cranky. everything makes him cry. He has in all his teeth and is getting an extra one in that is crowding all his bottom teeth. I'm sure this is the problem. The problem is there is no dentist in my area that will take my insurance and i do not have the money at the time to take him to one here and pay out of pocket or take him hours away to one that does take my insurance. i believe the closest one is at least 3.5 hours away. Does anyone have any suggestions? I will take him to the one here within the next few months but until then i need suggestions to help my poor baby cope.

You asked about his sleep patterns. his sleep has been really off because he just tosses and turns in his bed and when we let him sleep with us its the same way. I put him down for a nap twice a day but he rarely stays asleep long. I do believe this is part of the reason he is so cranky but i don't know what to do for that either. I also think the tooth is causing his sleeplessness. It looks like it might be one of his adult teeth. Also i hod him when he gets this way for as long as he needs me too. sometimes he'll just cry and cry. he seems comforted by being held but its not enough.

What can I do next?

could be the teeth ..do u ever try hugging it out? my son is such a happy little guy..he's 4 now..but sometimes a tantrum rears it's head and then i say.."hug" ..we hug and i hold him and its all over..if its something really bad we hug then talk it out..i am lucky to have found hugging it out b/c i watch my friend's kids be cranky and they just don't want to do hug it out..so they have little cranky people and mine gets over it instantly w/ some loving..and moves on ...now he tells me to hug him if i get upset..

Call your pediatrician to see if she has a suggestion. I wouldn't want to see my baby cry like that so I would get new insurance or pay out of pocket. You could drive 3 hours then stay the night there so its not too much driving in one day. This is your baby and his needs come first. He can't understand the insurance issue. He just knows he's in pain. I hope he gets relief soon.

try freezing a wet rag twisted in the freezer.. this way they can chew on it and it's nice and cold. umm.. you may want to try a close hospital to see if they have a dental prog that is 'rated' to what your finances are or a college that have students being overseen by dentist to show them what to do. Try the county to see if they have a list of dental facilites that are pro-rated or that accept payments.. Good Luck :)

Hello E.!
You didn't mention his sleep. How is that these days? Could there be a correlation there? We all have a hard time coping when we are running without enough sleep - especially infants and young children.
