Coughing Spells

His cough could be a result of some sinus drainage. Most commonly when children have a head cold they can get an ear infection. Since he is on antibiotics, it could be breaking up the cold and mucus and causing some drainage in the back of his throat. Generally, you should have a follow up appointment for the ear infection, and the doctor should look at him them. But, if this persists for more than a week after the antibiotics are done, I would take him back to the doctor. (Sometimes if you just call the doctor they can give advise over the phone and save a trip to the office)

Everytime My middle boy got an ear infection the drainage would irritate his throat and he would cough, often a respiratory infection would follow the ear infection. My husband would sleep in the recliner with him to keep the mucus/drainage from choking him fully. With our youngest boy, at this age we would let him sleep in the carseat/carrier because he would still be in that inclined position and less likely to choke on the drainage/mucus.

Soothing steamy baths before bed would probably help to keep the airway from being irritated. soothing aromatic plug ins could help too.

I usually rubbed myself down with vicks and then laid the baby on my chest as we napped in the recliner.

Decongestants and expectorants aren't suggested for baby's this size. The best thing to do is keep them upright as much as possible. swings, strollers, slings, carriers all will help you do that while allowing you to chase your nephew too.

My son has dont this since he was 3 months old. he is now 4 and we have found out its a type of asthma.. he doesn't wheeze just coughs alot. he uses a nebulizer when he has the coughin fits and is good to go for a few hours. i would look into it

it could be an alergy to omething. see a specialist, eye, ear, nose and throat

Not to scare you but if it continues, get him checked out for Pertusis (whoping cough). My son got it last winter, and he went undiagnosed for a long time.

it could be allergies. my son has asthma (he is 2) and this is some of the things we do. Elevate the crib, take outside if it is cold, put in the bathroom with steam, and give him a drink of coke (or something with caffiene).
Being so young the doc probably won't give you cough meds. you might check little noses. They were coming out with all sorts of stuff for colds and such! hope she is getting better.

My son has basically had a cough since he was 2 months old and he is now just turning 8 months. We have been to the doctor nearly every other week since then with this recurring cough. The doctor first believed that the cough was part of acid reflux. So when he was 4 months old we started administering Prevacid daily. And that seemed to work a little. But he was still fussy and still coughing. Then, by 5 months we added the Pulmicort with a nebulizer for possible asthma. At 6 months we switched his food to Infamil A.R. (for acid reflux). And that's when we noticed the biggest difference in his overall mood and symptoms. But the cough wasn't gone. This past week he went back again and the doc finally diagnosed asthma. Every time my son gets a runny nose it goes straight to his chest and the coughing begins. So now, he continues with the Prevacid 1x daily, the Pulmicort now 2x daily, the new Infamil AR formula and when the weather changes suddenly, he gets a runny nose, anything, we start administering the Xopenex in the nebulizer every 6-8 hours. This has been a huge difference. The chest rattle, wheezing, etc. dissipate quickly after that treatment and we have to continue it for a week just to keep the cough down. Could be allergies... dust, plants, pets

Try to do this... get some saleine and put a few drops in each nostral and that will dry up any drinage that causes them to cough..

My 4 month old has the same thing right now. Prior to being diagnosed with a double ear infection she had Broncholitis which made her cough so hard she would vomit. She is still coughing a little bit but whenever my kids get a cough like that our pediatrician has us give them nebulizer treatments. Most doctors prescribe this for asthma but it works wonderful for a bad cough as well. Especially for the younger babies since you can't give them anything for their cough. Since her cough is worsening since the doctors appt. you may want to call them and let them know. You may want to ask if nebulizer treatments is an option.

I say, call your doctor! Maybe you need a nebulizer and give albuterol treatments.
