Hi...this may sound like a silly question but here goes.
For any of you who recently had their widsom teeth removed (all 4 removed, non-impacted) what was the cost in doing so (TOTAL cost irrelevant of what insurance paid/you padi)? My husband needs to have his removed. But in order to obtain an estimate, we have to have an evaluation first done but we cannot get an appointmen in before our next year health election period ends. Basically, we want to try and figure out how much extra money we should put into our Health Flex plan for 2008 for this procedure. Your help is appreciated.
Thanks everyone. The estimates you provided are in-line what I have heard from others so I know approximately how much to put in our flex-spending account for next year. And we found out he does NOT have to have them removed :)
My husband just had this done Monday. All 4 of his teeth actually came in fine, but one cracked Sunday. To remove that one tooth it was about $180, we paid $72 for it out of pocket. Our dental is kinda crappy IMO. They only pay about 50% plus equipment. I figued it would be much more that it was.

i work at a dental office in the loop...........most DDS will ref you to a oral surgeon to have those wisdow teeth removed(because of them being so far back and some pt have them impacted)
So an oral sureon will charge about 200(+)/per tooth.
At least thats what most of our oral surgeons that we work with charge. But maybe depending on where an who you go to might charge a little less, but about 200 is likely what you'll find that is the min that they charge.....we charge 144 to ext a reg tooth....oral surgeons charge more.

But if you have ins, and have meet you deductable this yr and have enough benefits left you might want to get them ext this year to max your ins benefits......
I actually just stopped working for an oral surgeons office in town because I had a baby. The prices can vary...but here are some estimates. I do, however, encourage you to have a quick consult if you're really worried about exact costs and down payments that are asked the day of service. A single tooth can run anywhere from $110-400. $110 being if the tooth is a routine extraction. The cost goes up depending on position (impaction). If he is having general anesthesia that can run 200-300 dollars - give or take. Hope that helps.
I had mine removed at a dental school. It was only $100 for the procedure and that was all four removed and three were impacted. Definitely check to see about dental schools in the city or suburbs. It gives them a teaching moment and you get a great, cheap service.

I remeber when I had mine removed it was expensive. I know I had to pay like 375.00 out of my own pocket why the insurance picked up the rest. I will tell you that I have had many freinds go to the local dental schools and had work done on there teeth along wit exams. They have had no problems and I my self would go if I needed to. You might want to check around and see if there is a local dental school that you could go to and get an evaluation. I know it cost my freind 25.00 for and exam and to get a toot pulled!
Insurance covered mine, but it was about $150 per tooth. I had mine taken out last month.
My step sister just had hers removed. I believe it was fairly expensive. I think it was almost $1000 for everything. That includes the anesthesiologist (sp), etc. she also had several complications, so it may have been due to that as well.
