Dr. Sami Bittar removed a mole from my chin and you can barely see the scar. It looks like a small wrinkle. He's in La Grange.
We need to have a mole removed from my 4 year old daughters cheek. She will have a small scar from it so I would like a REALLY good cosmetic surgeon. Any suggestions are appreciated!
Thanks

I don't have a name for you but do have information about the scar. Make sure that right away that you have no sun hitting the area where it is to be removed. Use a hat and sunscreen to shade it. The healthiest skin heals best. Once it is complete and the initial healing has taken place(skin is closed not a sign of any residual scab or coagulated blood on skin and the skin is well approximated use sunscreen during the day from sun up to sun down, even in winter, even if she will only be out for a few minutes. Sun does cell damage preventing the best possible scar. This protection probably for all skin health should be followed for a lifetime, but at the very least the first year. Most wounds, scars won't heal completely until that 1 year mark and the full results of a mature scar for a child aren't realized until they have completed puberty. While I do suggest a board certified cosmetic surgeon if it is in a troublesome spot such as the vermillion border of the lip area, the area right below the nose or surrounding the eyes. Any other spot on the face, like the cheek alot of family physicians, dermatologists or general surgeons can do with the same end result cosmetically. As some insurance companies will not pay for a cosmetic surgeon to perform this procedure for a premium price when someone is capable of doing it for a fraction of the cost. While I know your childs face does not have a dollar amount on it, keep the end result and capability of the person in mind. We often have people come into the ER expecting a plastic surgeon to be called and often insist and don't understand why when they come in that they are either asking for payment upfront or miffed that the ER physician could have done the same sutures and hour ago possibly with a better result due to delay of closure and simplicity of wound. So make sure you check out all the issues in seeking out the treatment of the mole including your insurance company and their willingness to pay.
Dr. Frank Madda. He is in downers grove and hoffman estates. He is well known in the plastic surgery field. I have had several of my clients use him for reconstructive surgeries for dog bites on kids, and other scarring. He is great with kids and board certified.
I don't know any specific plastic surgeons myself, but I know a bit about the topic. If you really need a plastic surgeon for this procedure, please be sure to select a plastic surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). This is the ONLY board-certification for plastic surgeons that is recognized and approved by the American Medical Association.
Any licensed physician is legally allowed to advertise as a "plastic" or "cosmetic" surgeon, even if he or she has no formal surgical training. When you call to make a consultation, ask about the doctor's board-certification in plastic surgery. Hopefully, it will be with the ABPS.
Best wishes to you and your daughter!
I highly recommend Dr. John Polley at Rush in Chicago. He is the leader in his industry. Her performed surgery on my husband's face for cancer removal and he did impeccable work. Dr. Polley's specialty is children born with facial anomalies. He is routinely rated in the top docs by his peers in Chicago (Chicago Magazine). Best of luck to you!

I am not sure where you live but there is a double board certified general/plastic surgeon in Naperville his name is Dr. William Bull ###-###-####. I work at a surgical center where he comes and I know he has worked on children and because he is also a general surgeon the insurance should cover the cost.
Good Luck!

Good question. My husband also has a mole that he wants removed. Can you see a dermatologist?
DEFINITELY get a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. If you go to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons website, it can help you find a nearby, certified doctor that will be able to help you. It's www.plasticsurgery.org. Good luck!
