Just need some input on how to deal with me 8 and 13 year old during cancer treatment. I am 44 years old and a single mother. I have breast cancer and am currently in radiation treatment, will be starting chemo soon. I am working full time and often so tired when I get home and yet I need to care for my children. Any suggestions on herbal teas or anything that would give me more energy so I can spend more quality time with my children? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I finished radiation approx. 2 weeks ago and am getting a bit of my energy back. I will see my Chemo Dr. on April 15th and will start Chemo at the end of April.

Thank you all again! Hope you are all well :)

Hello K.!
Drink tons of CARROT JUICE & GREEN JUICES (celery, etc) - get from places like Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, organic is best. There's a very important DVD called "The Gerson Miracle" using juices, etc. to completely heal cancer. You can see the entire DVD online at their website for free! at: http://www.gerson.org/videos/default.asp
Good luck! -D.

I have experienced wonderful results from a program I have been on for 7 months. It has given me more energy, a better outlook on life and I feel GREAT! I don't have a serious illness, but myself, my daughter, my son and many friends and people I know have had wonderful results from the Isagenix Nutritional Cleansing Program. NO this is not a colon cleanse. It is a full body cellular cleanse. After the cleanse the nutrition side of the program builds you body up and gives you energy like you can't believe.

If you would to learn more about this program, call me at 1 ###-###-####. Hope to hear form you soon. I really think this could help you.

I am so sorry you are dealing with this. While I have not have cancer, I can imagine how terrifying it is. Have your doctors said anything about increasing your energy? I highly recommend you go see a master herbalist and/or a TCM practitioner (traditional chinese medicine). They can provide excellent help for energy.

I have information to give you about helping you fight the cancer. My mother is a nurse who spent most of her career with an oncologist team doing bone marrow transplants. She traveled with the oncologist and set up a second clinic in NYC with him. Then she spent a few years doing breast cancer research and speaking at conferences - delivering lectures to doctors. The advances made provide drastically different care and results from even just 10 years ago.

The information I'm about to paste has been reviewed by her as well as other medical people - but as with any other advice you have to follow your instincts and verify anything you feel a need to.

I'll share some info I've gathered.
There are a few things I have learned during my dog's fight with bone cancer (obviously she's not a human but the nature of cancer is the same regardless of who has it). My dog is 22 months post diagnosis and was given 6-12 mths, so we are doing something right. She has been through chemo and radiation and surgery. Please don't flame me for sharing advice that is based on my dog - I'm only trying to help and would use these same things on myself should I get it. My herbalist and TCM have also reviewed this and said these are great choices; my herbalist said she happened to be using everything I mentioned in helping one of her friends battle cancer. If I were at a high risk for cancer, I would incorporate most of these herbs into my daily living, proactively.

We have treated with nutrition, medical procedures, acupuncture, and herbs.

Nutrition: cancer feeds on sugar and carbs and doesn't like fat, so eat a cancer-fighting diet: good fats and protein and veggies. Avoid sugar and simple carbs.

Herbs: I don't profess to be an expert or know everything, but am part of a larger online dog cancer group and based on the collective wisdom, choose my medicines/herbs for three basic purposes:

1. Boost the immune system (selenium, vit C, probiotics, greens, milk thistle, enzymes, mushrooms, algae). I put chlorophyll in her water.
2. Make the blood inhospitable to the cancer (yeastguard, omega 3)
3. Fight the cancer (the rest of the items listed below)

Almost everything I give her are human herbs: astragalus, Epican Forte, omega 3 fish oils (she gets 1g per 10 lbs, so 8 GRAMS per day), ashwaganda, IP6, Essiac tea, hoxey-boneset, turmuric.

I also give Artemisinin, which is showing a lot of promise. Like chemotherapy, it targets cancer cells. Unlike chemo, it leaves normal cells alone; it targets iron-rich cells, which cancer cells are. It's also used to fight malaria. Here's a pubmed document showing the "cellular mechanism" by which artemisinin helps protect against cancer: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?cmd=Retrieve&amp... and if that truncates, http://tinyurl.com/2dsgwe will take you there too. You can do a search for "Artemisinin" and "studies" and find many results.

I also give a LOT of blue-green algae and medicinal mushroom tincture from Fungi Perfecti (mushrooms are famous for their health benefits). I give milk thistle to cleanse and protect the liver.

Most of these are easily attainable from health food stores. NONE of these are controversial herbs - most are things people have heard touted for everyday living, such as omega 3.

I get my artemisinan from http://holleypharma.com/ and my bluegreen algae from CellTech (now http://www.simplexityhealth.com/). The mushroom tinctures I order from http://www.fungi.com/. Epican Forte I get from www.naturalhealthshoppe.com. I'm not affiliated with any of these, simply providing my sources because when we're in crisis it's overwhelming to even shop around.

Hopefully some of these can be helpful for you and I'm sending you healing thoughts.

Take care,
S.

Dear K.,
I am so sorry to hear of your situation. You and your family will be in our prayers.
I would love to suggest that you find a church in your area if you don't already have one. Many churches have fantastic support systems for cancer patients. They can provide meals, childcare, and even help with fiances. Additionally, you'll meet some of the most caring, loving people that you've ever meet and they will support you through the entire ordeal.
My best friend just went through the very same thing. She is was 44 when she was diagnosed and is married and the mother of a 7 year old son. In addition to her treatment by her MD she was referred by her doctor to another doctor MD/DO who gave her accupuncture, NAET, and put her on a special diet. It really helped. She lost some weight and all of her hair, but she had minimal nausea and her energy levels were amazing. She also had a very positive outlook. I have walked through all the stages of breast cancer with three different women, but my friend's experience was so incredibly different and I know it was a result of the accupuncture.
The doctor my friend saw is covered under insurance. If you live in South Orange County, CA I'd be happy to give you her information if you're interested.

I do not think there is any herbal teas or things that will help you through this process. Now is the time to sit down and tell your children you need their help. You are not super Mom and your body needs to heal. Call you friends and get a game plan.( Cook meals ahead each week ) Your children can help you through this. Ask them and tell them how your feel. They will be happy to help their Mom.Don't take everything on your shoulders. Radiation and Chemo really Zap you of your energy.

Hi K.-
Im sorry you have this added stress in your life....
I am very passionate about this product I just started taking, and the benefit it is offering people, I started to sell it. I have met several people who have had cancer and are drinking this product. They are one of the few that do not get sick as often after treatments. MonaVie has 19 different fruits, which include the acai berry. This berry is so high in antioxidants, it is helping people with high blood pressure, high cholestrol and arthritist. Ofcourse we do not claim to cure any disease, but it does help build your immune system and fight off free radicals. I have a video I would like you to watch. it is 1 vidoes cut in 3 because of youtube, its not very long, about 7 minutes total, but well worth watching..

Hi K.,
Sending you heartfelt wishes and prayers for strength and rest during this difficult time. I am not sure where you are located, but in case you are in the san diego area, you may want to consider enrolling in our study at UCSD (we offer hands-on-healing at no cost to fatigued breast cancer survivors - our healers are absolutely wonderful and have a wealth of experience in this area). Our website is http://healing.ucsd.edu if you would like more info.

If this is not an option for you, certainly finding a healer in your area would definitely help with the fatigue (based on evidence from ours and others' studies). I know it probably seems difficult to find the time to go seek treatment, but it will likely be really worth it in the long run. Acupuncture is also a safe complement to the traditional treatment you're receiving and has demonstrated efficacy in reducing nausea and other troublesome side effects during cancer treatment. I know of some good acupuncturists in the San Diego area if you need referrals.

My guess is also that your children will be pretty understanding of what you are going through, though there might be some difficulty adjusting to the whole process at first. Don't underestimate their willingness or ability to help you with this process. As we all know, children are amazing souls who are often much more perceptive than we tend to realize! With some added support from friends, family, and/or your spiritual connection(s), you WILL get through this trying time!

Sending our prayers for you,
S.

Dear K. -- I had an accident in '02, underwent two surgeries, and it changed the dynamics of our household. Two days after returning home, my husband and 17 y.o. son and I were all very frustrated. My sister, a nurse, explained that everything had changed and that we needed to all sit down as a family unit and discuss what we can expect from each other going forward. It was highly beneficial when we did this because we got to express our feelings about what was happening to our family and what we needed from each other. Your children are old enough to help out and wait on you a little bit if you explain to them what is happening to you and how it affects you. Perhaps assigning them more chores that they can take pride in, planning meals, helping with the pets. As far getting more energy (I'm a big tea drinker) but I really think you need all the rest you can get. Keep talking to the kids, don't worry about scaring them, they're already prob. scared by the unknown. Let them know you're all in this together. My very best wishes to you for the return of your health. I will remember you in my prayers.

Hi K.,
I was just diagnosed last February with BC and underwent a bilateral mastectomy. All this happened with my husband in LA and me in NYC with our three boys-7, 5, 3. I was treated at Sloan Kettering. Advised to be honest with the boys. They've taken it well even with the cross country move! We joined my husband at the beginning of June and I began chemo at City of Hope. Actually have liked my treatment there better than at Sloan.

At any rate, my reconstruction from Sloan didn't work out so I underwent bilateral flap reconstruction in November and all has gone well. There is an incredible chief of plastic surgery at COH who really spends a lot of time with you and is a genius to boot.

Okay, enough about me.... Do you have any family or friends available to create a support system? You need a break, not tea. Plus you have to inform your doctors regarding any alternative meds you take. Try rooibus tea. Has no caffeine but is great for your immune system. Tasty too.

Perhaps some friends can come and help you freeze a lot of meals so that you can spend quality time with your kids even if you're tired. That way you don't have to cook every night. Also some of the prepared stuff at Trader Joes can save you time and energy. When I was doing chemo my husband was working really long hours producing a new show and I had no family. What helped was setting up play dates and taking a rest when the kids were out. Perhaps you can ask the parents of your childrens' best friends to pick them up on a regular basis. If they could return your children fed, you'd be able to spend time with them without having to use a lot of energy that is in short supply. It's tough to care for them when you are tired and if you have help getting rest you can always hang out with them on your bed while they do homework or just talk.

You can email me if you want to. If you're nearby I can give you some help. I have some scarves to pass along! ____@____.com

Hang in there. It does get better. I go back for surgery on the 17th! Final stages of my reconstruction!
P.

You want to be careful about doing anything alternative unless you check first with your doctor. I drank lots of rooibus tea as it's good for the immune system but it has no caffeine. Love it.

answers from Los Angeles on

Hi K.,

First let me say I'm so sorry to hear about your fight against the cancer. You're younger so I'll believe that you'll recover well from this.

I saw that you are in West Covina. My herbalist is in LaVerne off of Arrow Hwy before Wheeler.

Go to him. Not only can he help you by giving you what you need to have more energy (the natural way), but it's controlled by a knowledgeable person in this field. He can help you get your immune system back up and running while you are going through the Chemo and Radiation which is taking it down.
Do this, and you'll be there for your kids now and long into the future.

He treated a friend of my Moms and she had stellar results. Unfortunately, (long story) her boyfriend made her quit.... and she suffered and struggled. After 6 months she passed away (I have to tell you the short version so you don't freak) only to find out that HE had gotten her to sign a new Will days before she died, leaving him everything. Hence, the reason he made her stop with the herbalist! He watched her results with him and wasn't happy. She was doing very well but he couldn't AFFORD for her to hang out too long since his objective was to take everything from her.

The Herbalist - David Allen - has had many many MANY 'throw away cases' of cancer. Meaning those who the doctors said were terminal and there was nothing left to do. They lived. He'll tell you stories.

So, give your body another fighting chance by restoring your nutrition and fighting the toxins now in your body. And I also believe you CAN feel better even through the difficult treatments you are going through.

This mans 'formulas' are well known. Doctors and hospitals want the ones especially that 'detox' the body's filtration systems (liver, gallbladder, etc).

His work is not about the A, B, C's of vitamins. So this isn't like going to the store and grabbing Flintstones. It's natural, it's amazing, and it works.

He does not claim to 'cure' anything. All he does is work with your bodies 'specific' needs and rebuild you from scratch. By giving what your body needs, it can then do amazing thing for you in finding it's way back to health.

He has more 'acronyms' behind him then you can imagine. He's an expert in his field - gets herbs and the best of everything from around the world.

At least talk to him and get some input. First visit is $25. Every visit after that is $10. He's not about bilking people, his mission is for people to get healed, and that is his true desire. And if he see's that a person is serious about their health, the cost to you is only what you pay in your supplements....which isn't any different then the stuff you buy at the stores and I'd say almost cheaper then what you'd pay at health food stores.

(FYI- the vitamins sold in reg stores are only required by the FDA to have 3% of ACTUAL vitamins..the rest are fillers. WHICH is now causing problems for the CDC and other health organizations because the water supplies and oceans are becoming contaminated by vitamins that just pass thru the human body UN absorbed. It's possible this has changed. I doubt it).

One of the products David uses (along with his own formulas) is called Standard Process. Check them out on the web at www.standardprocess.com

...their products are actually 'compressed' foods. All good all natural...and they all really do something for your system. Instead of just dumping money down the toilet.

Here is there information:

David Allen @ ###-###-####. ask for Michelle to make an appt. They are in the La Verne ofc on Thursdays and Saturdays only. They'll get you in right away. Tell them T. sent you and tell them your situation.

Let them help you get back on your feet quickly, and thru natural health by rebuilding your system.

Then, by taking care of you first.....you won't have any question on how to take care and be their for your kids.

God Bless and keep us posted.

PS. If you look for some of my other email answers regarding the herbalist and some 'stories' of what happened to my Mom....you'll get a better idea.

I'll be praying for you.

Dearest K. ~
Although I don't have any great suggestions for you, I just had to write you and say what a star you are! You are going thru this, working full time and all your thoughts are about being able to find a way to have quality time with your kids. That deserves a shout-out and I wanted to give you one. My dear friend and old boss has been living with breast cancer for the past 5 or 6 years. She just moved to Australia, so is harder to reach, but was and is VERY actively involved in homeopathic remedies and all sorts of healthy ways to help herself thru the whole chemo and radiation stuff, so I will ask her and let you know what I find out for you. Meanwhile, though this may be too difficult for you time-wise, I can tell you that she started doing Korean Yoga, I believe it is called Dom or Dahm Yoga and there is a studio in downtown LA as well as a new one someplace in Beverly Hills. She never did any sort of excercise or yoga before her cancer and now she has become a teacher because she is so amazed at the strength it has given her. There ya go, I don't know if that may be helpful but I sure hope so. Bless your heart and your children and may all things go beautifully and well for you all. I wish you great good health.

First of all, I am so sorry about your diagnosis and I hope your treatment is successful. I am sometimes a single mom (my husband is currently on his third deployment in 3 years) and taking care of a newborn and 6 year old. I cannot imagine having to care for two children while enduring cancer treatment.

I have had very little sleep with a newborn and my energy took a nose dive. I cannot have caffeine because I am breastfeeding, so I found this juice that I drink every morning and afternoon and it has really helped my energy levels. It is called Life Time 6 Blend and it contains gogi, noni, pomegranate, mangosteen, and camu camu juices. My sister is a health nut and a yoga instructor and she swears by this stuff. You don't need to find any brand in particular, but rather something that contains some or all of those juices.

Best of luck to you!

I can't imagine being in your situation and will be thinking positive thoughts for you and your family. I can tell you from the perspective of a child of a single mother my advice is to sit down with your kids and talk to them about what you're feeling, what they're feeling and how you can work as a family to get through it. Your kids may very well come up with some great ideas or even volunteer to help out more around the house. Wishing you a speedy recovery and the strength you need to get through it all!

Hi K.: I know everybody is giving you advise on what you need to do, I'm no different. I have a great product that you should try. I actually sell it, but i can send you a sample of it to see if it helps you. I have a website that you can go into and take a look. Its an antioxidant made out of Wild Alaskan Berries. You dont have to buy anything. You can try it out for about 7 days and see if it works for you. If it does then you can purchase it, but you should try it. I am a diabetic, far from having cancer and I know there is better advise out there but, I am also a very skeptical person and I dont try just anything. Because of my diabetes, I found that my bones ached all the time, I was so tired at the end of the day, sometimes, I would fall asleep at my computer. I have a 23 year old, 14 years old and a 5 month old grandbaby. Plus the bigger baby in the house, the hubby. Trying to keep up has been very difficult. I am 44 years old and before I tried this product, I walked like I had arthritis. Now I take an ounce everyday in the AM and I am good to go all day. It is all natural and made from the best berries in the world. Anyway, I really cant say enough about this product so, if you are interested, email me back. The website is www.kyani.net/raza. I can send you a free sample bottle with all the literature regarding the product. Try it for 7 days, if it helps great, if not, well you didnt spend a dime. Let me know. I really do hope you feel better.

Thanks V.

For nausea and to prevent hair from falling out take Cadmium Salthuricum-30c 3 pellets 2 times a day. This is an homeopathic product. Should be taken one hour away from mint and 30 minutes away from food. Wholefoods and Santa Monica Homeopathic pharmacy carry this product. Not expensive at all.
also take Indoplex by integrative therapeutics for breast health. SM Homeopathic should carry this product.

Hi K.,
My heart and prayers go out to you and for you. I have read all the great advice and just want to add one small but I think important detail to some of those who advised you on getting your support group of friends and family together. Have one key person who will be the liason between you and your support system. You tell that person what your needs and wants are and they will communicate via email with everyone. Email is a great way to get co-workers and other friends of your friends to rally. My girlfriend did this for a friend with breast cancer and it worked out great. Plus you don't have to deal with a million people and phone calls etc. wishing you a speedy recovery . L. L. torrance

K....There are some great herbal supplements available to boost your energy levels as well as your immune system. Also, I would highly recommend incorporating an eastern approach with diet and herbal supplements into your western medical regimen.

I wholeheartedly advocate this approach in that we used it for my husband who was diagnosed with brain cancer 3 years ago at the age of 50. Although he did, ultimately, succumb to his disease, which has an average 3 month to 1 year survival rate, through an organic/ ayurvedic diet and eastern herbal supplements, along with the western protocol, he was able to healthfully survive for 2 and a half years, even continuing his family therapy practice, before falling out of remission last May. Your illness is curable and there are several things you can do to keep yourself as healthy and vital as possible throughout the course of your treatment.

KyoGreen energy drink is a water/juice soluble mix you can get at GNC. I would suggest drinking 3 to 4 8 oz. glasses per day. It's a great energy booster and my 79 year old mother and I each drink it every morning. You would benefit from several glasses a day.

Also, Ginseng supplements will assist with boosting your energy. Additionally, Maitake and Reishi mushroom extracts are wonderful for boosting the immune system. You also will want to consider detoxing your liver as much as possible. Milk Thistle is great for that as well as a tea brewed from a dry mixture called Floressence. These products are available at health food stores and Whole Foods.

Most importantly, based upon where you live, I would highly recommend making a visit to a shop called Dragon Herbs. They are located in Santa Monica at 315 Wilshire Blvd. ###-###-####. They have Doctors of Oriental Medicine available to conduct a simple exam of your tongue, fingernails and pulses in both wrists. From that alone, they can determine what herbs might benefit you the most. Although their products are a bit expensive, the quality is incomparable. I continue to use their products for health maintenance. They do have a special discount plan for individuals with compromised immune systems. You just have to ask to fill out a simple form to be put in their computer system. If you'd like to learn more about their products, you can visit www.dragonherbs.com.

I sincerely hope this information is of some assistance to you and I wish you a quick, full recovery.

Blessings,

M. S.

I have no experience in this area, but I would suggest googling it, or even looking in the phone book for support groups - they would have suggestions and it helps to talk to someone who has been through a similar experience - only they can TRULY empathize!

Hi K.,

My prayers are with you and your children. I had spinal surgery a yr and a half ago, and breast reduction surgery two months ago. My suggestion is to try accupuncture, massage, and accupressure, to help with the pain and stress. Also try meditation, prayer, yoga, and breathing exercises as well. The information is readily available on google. I was very disabled, and in a lot of pain for over a year. The hardest part was not being able to mommy my children, 5 and 7 at the time. I felt helpless and wondered if I would ever heal. Please don't feel this way. Do what you can, and don't hesitate to ask others for help. As mothers we give till we have nothing left. Now is the time for others to take care of you, and for you to take care of yourself. Take care of your mental health. Talk to your spiritual advisor, friends, and family. Have hope, smile, laugh, deam of tomorrows to come, and look for the pleasure and happiness you can have now. When all I could do was lay in bed, I could still snuggle my kids and read with them, and at the time, that's probably what they needed most. God bless you and heal you.

K., I am so sorry to hear what you are going through. You may want to try a naturopathic doctor as a supplement to your current treatment plan. One that is fantastic is Natasha Wolf in Carlsbad http://www.vitalianaturalmedicine.com/staff/drwolf.html

She helps specifically with this type of health care problem. Do you have any family in the area that can come by a couple nights a week to help you with dinner and or homework with your kids?

Hi K.,

I am so sorry to hear about your cancer. I completely empathize with your situation. You really need help during this time of your life. This is a crisis/trauma situation. That is what friends and family are for. Do you have anyone in the area to help you. If not, reach out. Call a local church, find a support group, connect with your children's friends and ask. If you cannot ask help for yourself, ask it for your children. So often single moms are self sufficient and are go-girls. Give yourself permission to heal and ask for help. I'll be praying for you.

K.,

I am 48 years old and an 11 year b/c survivor (who adopted a baby in April - as a single mother!:).

Re suppliments which will give you energy, I suggest you ask your doctor and medical team first and foremost, as some herbal suppliments and mega-C boosters will actually interfere with chemotherapy.

More than anything, I am sure you are emotionally overwhelmed. My best advice to you is to join a support group. There is an excellent one at UCLA - The Ted Mann Cancer Resource Center - and you do not have to be a patient to join. Also, WE SPARK, in Sherman Oaks on Ventura Blvd is very good.

YOU CAN DO IT! Believe me, I had a very tough case, and my doctor actually wrote, "patient has very poor prognosis" on my chart. HA! It's difficult to imagine, but I suspect this will be a blip on the radar when you experience all the wonderful things your life has waiting for you.

Best wishes to you and your family.

Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you. Although I am not personally in this position, I have been from the side of your kids. I was 14 when my mom went through several surgeries, and chemo for cancer. She did not always have the energy, but I understood why. I hope you have discussed with you kids what is happening, and why you are tired. Your 13 yr old can help out more around the house, and even the 8 yr old can as well. Do you have a church or group who may be able to bring meals over for dinner? Then the kids can clean up while you rest, and have some energy to sit and read, talk, play games with them. When this is all over, and you are cured, your kids will not remember all the extra chores they had to do, but the time you spent with them.
Blessings to you, and I pray for a full recovery soon.

Hi K.,
I come in agreement w/Helen G.
Do you have support from family and friends? Church family? Maybe they could help you out with the kids and bring meals over when your feeling especially tired. But other than that, just from personal experience on the energy thing, I LOVE EMERGEN-C!!! It's called Super Energy Booster* 1,000mg Vitamin C as 7 Mineral Ascorbates 32 Mineral Complexes B Vitamins; that's what it says on the packet. I really like the Tangerine flavor. They are little packets of flavored fizzy drink mix, you can add to water. It is a great way to boost energy! My mom takes 3 a day and she's the energy queen! I love them. You can find them at Wal-Mart, GNC, health food store. Other than that, just eat healthy, try to excercise to stay strong and ask the docs about support groups and nutritional supplements. I love health food, and they have some great things at Down to Earth in Honolulu. Best wishes and you'll be in my prayers for speedy healing!

Wow....that is tough. I am just finishing radiation (7 weeks) and had chemo already. I understand the tired - with radiation it's up and down, with chemo you are tired alot. My first suggestion is to make some easy meals you can freeze and just supplement. Second would be to recognize things justwon't be done the way you want and it's ok. Do you have family or friends that will help out with the kids?

I'm scratching my head on this because I had radiation for breast cancer and it did wipe me out. I would come home from work and just crawl into bed with no energy. I'm trying to put myself in that place with active children (I raised my 7 children 30-40 years ago and luckily was healthy during that time). Although I know there may be times when you have to get up and take your children to activities, is it possible you could explain to your children that the treatment that is keeping you "well" means that you need to spend some extra time in bed resting, so you need to all think of some fun things you can do together around your bed or the sofa. Would they go for board games or card games? Maybe you could search the listings for one really good program on Animal Planet or a similar station to all watch together. Or, you could choose a movie to get from the video store or NetFlix that you could all enjoy together and watch in segments. And of course you can schedule some "Talk Time" when everyone gets a chance to tell about their day or something else important to them. If they have lots of homework, set up a chair and tray table for each near the sofa so you can help them and cheer them on from a resting position.

I know you don't want to scare your children into thinking that you might die, so you probably want to tread lightly on your health situation, but children always know more than about such things than it appears, so I don't think it would hurt them to be enlisted into helping Mom with her treatment. It might empower them if they are frightened over things they have overheard or guessed but don't think they should talk about. Obviously, I don't know what you have told them.

Good luck with the rest of your treament. I think that you should redefine quality time as quiet time when you can do something sedentary together. And put the kids to work popping some corn in the Micro or choosing and serving the drinks for the family game or movie session. Do the same for family talks and homework sessions.

Sound healing with Tibetan singing bowls has been medically proven to cut the healing time from cancer by 50%. You can contact me for more info on that.

Shiitake, maitake and turkeytail mushrooms have also been proven to help heal breast cancer. This has been confirmed after 30 years of research. Please be sure to buy organic mushrooms. Most health food stores sell organic shiitake mushrooms, organic maitake and turkey tail are more difficult to find but you can also get them as supplements in the vitamin section of health food stores. Drink Kombucha.

Chemo is really tramatic to your body as I'm sure you know. There are real alternatives that western doctors don't tell you about.

Dietary change is the biggest thing you can do, and it will give you more energy. Fresh, organic produce is key.

If you use deodorant with aluminum in it, please stop!!! This is a big factor in poisoning the lymph glands and contributing to breast cancer.
Also stop wearing underwire bras, as they constrict lymph fluids.

Pure blue-green algae will give you energy, reduce stress and enhance your immune system.

Cancer in the breast has to do with nuturing and feeling safe, loved, and protected. It would be greatly helpful if you engaged in some release work with a healer around these issues. I know with every fiber of my being that you can heal yourself this way. I have seen it happen many, many times!

Watch the section on healing in the movie "The Secret". There is a woman they interviewed who healed her breast cancer in 3 months by saying throughout the day, "Thank you for my healing." and watching funny movies and laughing all the time. She did this without chemo or radiation!!

Stay deeply positive and joyful, eliminate all possible stress factors and enjoy your beautiful healing!

With Love,
R.

Hi K.,

I just finished four rounds of chemo for stage 1 breast cancer and I have two children ages 7 and 10. I am 39 years old and was diagnosed in September After my first chemo treatment I decided to try acupuncture (not for nausea, the meds took care of that for me) to help me with all the side effects. The day after each acupuncture treatment I felt an incredible surge of energy and well being. It helped my body, but also my emotions and state of mind. I went once a week and also on the day before or same day as chemo, and then the day after chemo. I have not had radiation (am doing mastectomy becauseI have a possible genetic component) so I don't know how that feels but I know that acupuncture can help support your body and immune system through radiation as well. The only glitch in all this is money. See if your insurance will cover it. If they only cover a portion and you can afford to cover the other, it is absolutely worth trying it to see if it works for you. They also have special teas which are bitter (I actually like them but most people don't love them) which helped me. BTW, your insurance company may have some acupuncturists in network.

Please do not hesitate to write if you want to know more.

My experience has been that once you complete SOMETHING, you start to see the end of the tunnel. All the best!
