Contraceptives

Hello Moms

So after my scare of being pregnant I have now decided to find a contraceptive that will be safe and effective to use. I just took the planB pill and I still have to wait a mth to find out if it has worked. I must say that my husband and I have been pretty safe thus far in not getting pregnant over the past 2yrs without using contraceptives. He is the paranoid type and plays it safe at all times but if was to be pregnant we would just deal with it.
The only contraceptive I have tried b4 is the patch which I will never use again. My cousin recomended the implant but apparently that procedure is mainly done in England. So to the moms out there what are your recommendations minus the side effectis if possible -:).

What can I do next?

Wow, I was so excited to tell you all about the mirena iud but everyone beat me to the punch, I had it for three years worked great. Asked to have it out after I got married and actually got pregnant three days after it was removed. I've been told that's not the norm, but neither was I, super fertile gal!
Good luck!

I recommend Mirena IUD it is not like the old school IUD. I have had it for 2 yrs now and it is wonderful not having to remember to take a pill, apply a patch or the like. Good luck!

Go to www.mirena.com and check out the info. This is an IUD implanted in the uterus. It lasts for 5 years and can be removed anytime if you have problems or want to get pregnant again. I've had mine for 1.5 years with no problems.

Your question makes me think of what I tell my child--don't stick anything out the window that you want to keep. So it's good you are thinking about contraception because you are definitely risking a pregnancy without birth control. I've successfully used Seasonale (pill) for several years. Having just four periods a year is great. I haven't had any side effects.

I can recommend the Mirena IUD, great protection that you never have to think about. I couldn't be happier with it.

I just got Implanon in early May and I love it, but you really have weigh the pros and cons. A lot of people have constant bleeding, but it has been like Depo for me and I have not even had spotting. It lasts for three years and your fertility can come back right after removal (which you can chose to do at any time).

FOr pills,I loved my Yasmin or now it is called Yaz. But if you don't get the seriously gonna die cramps, and extreme moodiness maybe not for you.

I wanted to try Mirena after this child. I have heard great things from doctors and other women. Its easy to get put in ( doctors visit regquired) but then you can leave it in for 5 yrs. But I have decided to get my tubes tied instead as I have been so sick with child #2, that we have decided that 2kids are enough.

I recommend the Mirena IUC, very somple procedure and last 5 yrs, or less if you want it to. I love mine, you dont have to worry about daily or monthly checks on anything.

I agree with the use of the Mirena IUD. It is worry-free. I have used IUD's since 1998 and have been very pleased. When and if you decide to conceive it is easily removed in your doctor's office. Good Luck!!!!

I just had Mirena implant. I did it here in the states. It was about $100 with my insurance but last for 5 years. It hurt a bit when they did it and was a bit crampy that day but after that everything is okay.

Try the Mirena IUD. It is very safe and very effective. They place it in the doctor's office. It is painful during insertion but you rarely have a period and lasts 5 years. After that time, you either have it removed or another inserted. Good luck!

Have you thought about or talked to your doctor about an IUD? I have had one now for about 8 years and love it! It is easily inserted by your OBGYN and there are not any hormones connected with it. You can have it removed at anytime also to try and conceive if that is what you plan to do eventually. I took birth control pills for about 14 years and was at the point where I couldn't stomach the thought of swallowing them anymore. Talk to your doctor and research online to get more info.

The ring is pretty effective. So are IUD's. Or the shot. There is always the pill, but you have to remember to take it everyday (I never could remember). Really, you should talk to your GYN and find out what options are best suited to you and your body.

I agree, try and use some with a low dose of hormones, the b.c's with tri in them have more usually. I am currently pregnant, but when I am done in 3 months, I am planning on using the Mirena iud. My ob-gyn suggested it b/c it stays in place for up to 5 years, but if I change my mind at any time, it can come out. Good luck!!

I just had a baby in Feb, and after that I am done. I got the mirena placed. And love it so far! Absolutely no side effects...well, if you call being period free a side effect! :-)
We are done having kids and our most recent pregnancy was the result of nfp (not planned!). So we are done done done. I have the mirena and DH will be getting the V.

You can research the Essure if you want permanent birth control.

I previously used the pill (for 6 years), and also tried the patch (which I used a very short time b/c the side effects were horrible). I had the Paragard IUC inserted in September 2006, my kids were 3 & 2 @ the time. I chose Paragard b/c I wanted a reversible, hormone free birth control option that I didn't have to think about daily or weekly! I do get slightly heavier periods, but that hasn't bothered me much. I would highly recommend getting the Paragard IUC. Check out paragard.com. Hope this helped.

Hey there Grace Ann!
Yikes! Scares are no fun....I personally have always hated almost all contraceptivesand I've tried the pills, spnges, rings, condoms...no patches though! The side effects, the need to take every day at the same time...ugh! What a bother! But no babies 'til I was 40 so I obviously hung in there!! I did like the nuvaring for the first 3 monthes, but then I started having hormonal related emotional side effects!! Since the birth of my daughter 2 yrs ago, I had an IUD put in and halleluah!! Birth control I don't have to think about and so far no weird side effects!! YAY! I chose the Mirena that has a wee bit of progesterone release....my best friend has a copper one, and also says she loves it!! Try discussing some options w/ your doc and Good Luck to Ya!!!! L.

I have been on the Nuvaring for about 2 years now and I love it. It is a little ring that you insert once a month and leave it in for 3 weeks, take it out and have your period for 1 week then insert a new one. I love it cause you don't have to remember to take a pill every night or morning. I have had no side effects. It is wonderful.

I THANK GOD AND SCIENCE FOR MIRENA!

My heavy-painful periods are light/mild/ non-existent for the last two years. I had it done in the OB/Gyn office.
It was the equivalent of a pap smear and I cramped and bleed a little (because they have to implant this tiny little Y shaped plastic devise in your uterus by way of your cervex.
Thus the cramping and a little blood.
I don't have to worry about the rhythm- method.
My periods are so very light that it's more of an off-color discharge. I don't get emotional or moody like I was on the pill (which lasted a whole two months-that junk will make people cRaZy!)
I love it and it lasts 5 years, so after the 5-year mark you have it removed and maybe have more little ones, or have it removed and replaced for another 5 years.

Whatever your choice is, do your research, don't listen to what some doctors may say, they're business people, they're in the biz to make money too. Google it, read research done, Look into it for yourself. YOU will have to live with the repercussions of your decisions.
