I had that problem with my baby too when she was only three weeks old. I gave her one tsp of apple prune juice and it really worked. I still give her one tsp every day and does not have any more constipation.
does anyone know a home remedie for a 2 month old that is constipated?

My grandmother always said use a small sliver of soap and put some vaseline on it so it slides in easier, but i could never bring myself to do it so i bought a small jar of baby prune juice and watered it down a bit and it worked for us.... good luck
I have one that had that same problem and I use infant fleet. I consulted the Dr and he said it would not harm them if you use a small does not the whole thing because of his age.
I also have heard about karo syrup never had to use it yet but heard it works. Also laying them on their back and bending their knees up to their chest might help get things moving try both at the same time and also alternating wont cure the constipation but will make it easier to go. Hope this helps!

Prune Juice works WONDERS for my little man. I buy the Gerber bottles and I think they are less than a dollar for a small bottle. I put a capful in all of his bottles through out the day and not in his bottle before bed. It took about 3 days for it to really work and every since then we have been regular. Before prune juice he wouldn't go but every 5-6 days and even then it was very stressful for him!! The prune juice was WONDERFUL!!!! Hope it works for you!!!

give them pear juice, but mix half water, half juice or you'll have a big mess . i promise it goes right through them. i had to use it for my daughter b/c prunes didn't even work for her.
I don't know about the syrup but I know the prune juice works. So do the prunes when they get a little older. Epsom salts work but don't think it is for babies. I do know one thing you don't want to do if you go on a Florida vacation and let them play in the sand! My daughter started eating it and apparently the salts in it also get you going. It is not fun cleaning a dirty diaper with sand in it. lol
HI there :) One thing that my son's dr told me to use was dark karyo syrup (you can find it around the syrup in the grocery store) That's what the dr told me on Friday and so it might work. On him it hasn't and he is almost 3 months old. To do the karyo syrup but about a teaspoon of it in their formula, do that a couple of times a day. I know of other home remedies but since the dr told me that I thought I'd share.
Well what I used to do for my little ones was when making their bottle, instead of water I would mix in a couple ounces of White Grape Juice by Juicey Juice.
So for example in a 4 oz bottle: I would put 2 oz water and 2 oz white grape juice, then the powdered formula I was using.
And of course a nice warm bath can help or take your baby in the shower with you and let the water run down their back.
I did the karo syrup thing with my first daughter and she would go eventually, but then she was sooooo gassy that it just started a whole new problem. Then I started with a bottle of 1/2 apple juice 1/2 water about an ounce or two about half way between feedings and that seemed to work better for us. Are you sure she is constipated? My second daughter only poops every two or three days and that is normal for her. Good luck!
I've always used a drop of black strap malases. You can find it at a health food store. I'm not sure where else you can find it. A friend of mine reccomened using it. I tried it once & it works. I still use it (as needed).
put some dark karo syrup in his/her bottle twice a day for a couple of days. that's what my ped. told me to do...it works. apple, grape, pear, and prune juice works too.
1/4 milk of magnesia once a day, and use glycerin suppositories to get him or her started. we have this same problem and found out that my son has a milk protein allergy so they had to switch him to nutramigen. also DO NOT USE KARO SYRUP!!!!! They recently did a test on some bottles of it and they had botulism in them. my pediatrician from childrens hospital in omaha said karo syrup and molasses are a no no for that reason. I was also told that babies do not need to go every day. It is ok if they go every 4-5 days. If it has been longer then 5 days then you need an intervention.
take warm water and mild soap and put it into a thing for sucking out burgers for noses and stick into their little butts and hurry up and cover their butt up so the poop can come out. my son was like that and thats how we got him to poop. we have a nephew that was the same way when he was younger and his mother did the same thing and now every once in awhile we do that and he does not have much problems after that. I too, have a 2 month old who was constipated. My son was born Sept. 3rd and currently weighs 15lbs 14 oz. My dr. told me to give him 1/2 tsp of Milk of Magnisem everyday. After 2 doses of it he finally went. I have been told by friends that 1/2 tsp of white carol syrup mixed in with a bottle will also work, but I have not tried that. He is much happier as I'm sure he feels so much better. If you do get Milk of Mag get the original kind, my husband got the mint flavor and that didn't go over well, he threw it up everytime I tried to give it to him..the mint was a bit much! :) Hope this helps.

Are you sure your baby is constipated? Does his poo look like rabbit poo? I thought several times that my son was constipated, but he just had such big poos when he had them that they cleaned out his system for a few days. He would usually only poop once every three or four days...
Are you formula feeding? BF baby's don't typically get constipated at that age. I'm sure all these ladies have great advice. Good luck!
Edit: PS Sugar Water can dehydrate a newborn, I'd stay away from it.
Corn syrup is what my doctor reccomended to me when my little boy was that age. Just a teaspoon or so in his bottle will help. At least, it worked for me. Good Luck!!!
I have been having a problem with my now three month old as well. I give him sugar water to help. Now my children's doctor has suggested apple juice (not the 100% juice but the kind that has sugar in it) when they are older. Good luck I hope it helps.
Citricil was recommended by my grandson's pediatrician at that age along with one extra bottle of water per day.
Is the child really constipated? I mean is the baby breast fed and only having a BM every few days? Is the child formula fed and having a hard time getting it out. I mean there are several different ways to handle each circumstance.
1. breast fed babies do not poop every day. Not all do anyway. If they have a BM and it is still the yellow mustardis seedy looking poop then they are fine. They are not consitpated if they dont poop every day. They are normal and I would not introduce anything new to a 2 month old baby.
2. formula can constipate babies. you can offer 1 ounce of apple juice and 1 ounce of water mixed together and it should have him going in the next few hours probably. You could also put a warm washcloth in his diaper to help relax his rectum so he can actually pass his stool easier. Give him a nice warm bath. He should be fine. I would not worry about it. If he is haveing really dark brown very hard stools then he is indeed constipated. If he just isnt going everyday then count your blessing that you dont have as many diapers to change and he is saving you money. lol. Good luck. Ok and the Kayro syrup can cause more damage than it is worth. If you repeat the syrup too much they like the sweet taste and wont take a bottle wihtout it and they get diareah. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
I am a mommy of 4. Been there done that. Good luck.Hope this helped.
Personally, I would skip the syrup b/c it can cause him/her serious stomach/gas pains. I would try diluted prune juice. 1 oz. juice, 3 oz. water as recommended for babies that age having juice. I have heard from peds that you can do the same with apple juice, but I've also heard that it has a reverse effect on babies as it does adults (meaning it will constipate them more).... I tried apple juice and it didn't really work well. Now, if your baby has some gas issues as well, I always gave my little girl Little Tummies brand gas relief drops and it didn't just help gas, it helped move things along.
I'm not sure about a home remedie, but depending on how constipated your baby is I'd go to the store and buy a infant supository(spelling) it sounds gross but they've worked for me and my baby. I have tried the syrup in the bottle but that really doesn't seem to work for us.
good luck, babies can be so grumpy when constipated.
if you decide to do the suppository thing I would be more than happy to explain to you how to do it, if you need.

Prune juices usually works, you caqn also sit them in warm water with baking soda. It loosens the muscles and helps. At last, if that is not working, there are over the counter suppositories (spelling) i would not use these until it is truly the last straw. One thing I do want to remind you is... If they are passing gas, it's just hard stool and not constipation. Their bellys get hard. In that case be sure to give them juice and if they are really gassy give them the gas drops over the counter. All of the signs are so close to one another. Try everything before the suppositories, you don't want their system getting use to that.
When my 3 month old was constipated, my doctor told me to give her 2 ounces of prune juice and water (one ounce of each). On the second "dose" she was finally able to go after 4 days. I also did a lot of tummy massage to help her relax a little. It seemed to work.
Have you tried mineral oil? Apple juice never worked for my daughter but prune juice did. So did white grape juice. As for the mineral oil you can ask the pharmacist about the dose. Good luck! My daughter is 2 and we are still having problems. We are now seeing a GI doctor. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me at ____@____.com daughter has been dealing with this since she was born.
iam sorry u are going through this i use the karo syrup i just put 1/2 tsp in the bottle of milk and i have done this with all my kids hope it helps
Try alittle kyro syrup in his bottle it'll help. They don't need much just alittle bit and it should help.
With 3 kids we have been through this many times. Especially because they must have my bowel system!!! LOL We have tried many things....The best options seem to be: 1. Either Apple Juice diluted with water or even the Apple Prune Juice, same thing! 2. Karo syrup- Put about 1 Tsp in 1 Bottle per day when they have an episode of constipation. Babies are like us....they don't need to go everyday or on a schedule..so he/she is only constipated when they have a hard time trying to go or go and just have a small ball or hard poop!! That is the only way to put it!!! LOL The Karo should make them go within 24hours and sometimes possibly an explosion!! 3. If you have to...we have had to use the Glycerin Suppositories. They make them for infants and children...very inexpensive....I just hate the thought of it, so I usually try the others before step 3. But I know for a fact that one of the 3 will work well!!! 4. Another thing to think about is...take them to a Chiropractor....Works everytime....Something could be wrong with the spine pinching the nerves to cause them not to go....I have also done this for my babies. 1 adjustment will make them also go within 24 hours. I would lay money on it!!!! Don't ask the Dr.'s about it cause most MD's dislike chiropractors because it takes patients and money from them and all the meds and so on!!! But I swear by Chiropractors!!!! Big or small need and they can help!!!
My doctor recommended some glycerine on the end of a q-tip. We just tried a glycerine suppository with our 7 month old and it worked within 20 minutes and our little one did not show any signs of discomfort.
no and i wish i did! my 10 week old has been consitpated off and on since i quit breastfeeding her! I know some doctors will ok a lil apple juice but i would check with your pediatrician before doing that.
There is babylax called fleed. It was a lifesaver for my son. He will have a bm within minutes but it can get messy. The doctor adviced it for my then 2 month old son.
I've always been told to put a little Karo corn sryup in the bottle with the formula. Hope this helps.
