Computer Saavy Mamas, Help Me Out!

I've got a Mac running Lion, and use Safari.

ALL OF A SUDDEN, I can't access my main website for work... and my work emails (through the work server via mac mail) aren't coming in/going out.

I spoke with host gator AND verizon, and they keep pointing the finger at each other; I'm not getting any answers.

I have not changed any security settings, no parental controls, no firewall or security software blocking these sites.

WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON?! This is day 3 of being on the phone nonstop trying to get answers... I can easily access the site from my boss's house, just not my own (but on the same laptop)...

I've already reset my router to factory default settings.

What else can I try? What have I missed? I have to get this working!! I've changed nothing! Still kind of seems like it's maybe something on Verizon's end, right? I have FIOS, by the way...

Thanks in advance :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Cleared the cache and DNS, restarted, like I said, nothing else has changed. Verizon is not denying that I can't access this site, they're just not accepting responsibility when I can use the same computer anywhere and access this stuff, just not IN MY HOME... to me, it's something here that we're missing.

He suggested that maybe my IP address is blocked by the server, but I checked with the administrator and he says it's not... ugh.

It's Safari. Not the browser to use with a Mac--especially a newer OS. Download Firefox. You'll love it and never use Safari again!

If you can "get to" the internet--it's not Verizon....it's your browser.

I've been using Macs for 20 years....Safari is the devil.

Have you updated any software (auto updates) lately, in particular security software 9Norton, etc)?

I'm not a MAC user...however.....

clear your cookies and your cache...
if you are using wireless - go cable to see if you get a change - that would tell me that your wireless is having problems.

I'm sure they (the support teams) have told you to unplug your router and wait 15 seconds and plug it back in, right? If not - do that...it's a hard reset..

I'll talk to Bob and see if he can come up with anything else..

If you can connect from your boss' house on the same laptop you are trying to connect with at your house, it sounds like a network security setting. Do you use wireless at your house? Have you tried connecting directly (with a cable)? It could be the firewall on your wireless router. Are you getting an error message? Also, do you have tech support at work? Are they able to help you out?

Have you tried rebooting your wireless router? Or perhaps having Verizon reboot their terminal.

We have FIOS. After a storm about 3 weeks ago we weren't able to use our phones. Cable was fine. Internet was fine. Phones wouldn't work. I unplugged everything except 1 LAN phone. Restarted the DSL box. Nothing. Called up Verizon. Turns out there is a FIOS box installed on the ceiling of our garage near the door opener that had a problem. They had to send a restart code from their system. That did the trick.

Of course if you find it and can get to it, there is a reset button on the inside of the box, but I'm not climbing 8 ft. in the air to do that.

Can you bring in another computer to check if the problem is only at your house? Since your computer works elsewhere,, Id suspect your line to your house, or modem, or whatever the set up is.

Are you having bandwidth issues otherwise? (In other words, can you get to other websites, just not your work's)?
If that's the case, it's not Verizon's problem.

Try restoring your laptop to the last time you remember it working OK.
I'm not sure where that feature resides on a Mac. In Windows you can do it from the boot menu. You should have the ability to go back and select a date that you can restore to.
You'll lose anything that you've done between that time and now, but you should be able to access work.

My guess is that an auto-update for your security might have blocked it without you making any changes.
