Clothes for Young Teen Girls

Where do your younger teen girls (still in middle school) like to shop for clothes? My daughter loves Aeropostale but it seems like a lot of their clothes are similar so I thought she may want to start shopping other places too. She does like the jeans at Old Navy. I like the sales and coupons at both places! I know some of her friends shop at Hollister. I have looked at the website and it seems pretty expensive. Do any of you shop there? Do they offer coupons, etc. if you get on their email list? Thanks!

Also, if you/she are not opposed to gently used, you could try Ebay. Name brand lots are always on there, and for a fraction of what you would pay brand new.

You could try this coupon website: http://www.retailmenot.com/view/hollisterco.com

Just type in the store you're looking for...I can usually find some decent coupons or online discounts.
Good luck!

Check out Plato's Closet. It is a very hip second hand clothing store owned by the company that has Once Upon a Child and Play It Again Sports. Folks, usually teens, college students and cool young adults, bring their unwanted fashionable, name brand clothes, shoes, accessories, books and DVDs and get money for them and the store is very selective to brand names and styles, they make their profit but still keeps the prices down. My daughter LOVES going there and feels like a treasure hunter and I feel like I can get her more for less. We are both happy. This last visit before school started was a gold mine, she did amazingly well and ALWAYS is complemented on her unique style, and I am happy not to bust the budget.

P.S. They have a frequent buyer program and if you don't take a plastic bag you get an extra stamp. When you fill the card you get an extra 20% off your next shopping spree.

P.P.S. My daughter just came in my office and added that Plato's Closet is Her Happy Place!

Cant say enough about Plato's Closet!!!! I LOVE That place, so does my eldest (14yo - HS Freshman). She loves that store, as do many of our friends and their kids. My daughter LOVES talking about the fact that she got a Vera Bradley purse ($85+) for FREE b/c she used her Plato's Point Card (Cost $5 but you get 1pt for each $1 spent - also you only pay the price once and it is good forever:) )

I have even found things for myself there too lol

Hollister is so overrated. Seriously. Have you checked out Styles for Less or Pacific Sunwear or even Target? What about American Eagle? American Eagle is somewhat like Hollister but a little cheaper and have better sizes and stuff.

If your daughter is interested, check out the clearance section of Hollister! Although it is expensive full price they usually always have a large sale section where you can get clothes for the same price as old navy.

I would say to go to the places she likes and then shop the sale racks. You have to go more often but pays off in the end.

ETA - @ reverandruby - I was teased merciously when in school for not having the brand name clothes, as was my sister. It really killed our self esteem which is tragic. You may not understand, but it's important!

You can try Burlington Coat Factory and Rugged OutFitters, both have name brand clothes and at a very decent price and very stylish, with 3 boys and 1 girl I wouldn't trade those stores for anything.

We picked up a really cute skirt & sweater set for my 13 yr old at Tilly's. I'm not sure if they have them by you, but they have a lot of cute stuff & the sales are pretty good plus we were given a coupon for our next purchase. I agree about a lot of the clothing being very expensive and thankfully my daughter has been best friend's with a boy since the 1st grade so she's not too caught up in the latest fashion trends & even shops green(consignment shops)!!!!

My daughter, 24, was an avid Hollister and Ambercrombie & Fitch shopper in Jr. High and High School. I refused to buy her clothes there, she babysat then later waitressed, way to expensive and I felt they were poor quality. I did buy her some stuff at Aeropostle but I also think they are a bit expensive vs quality. I bought her a pair of jeans there and she wore them once maybe twice and the fabric split right next to the back pocket.
I know many of the girls who shop there do to fit in. It seems as though the popular girls have to wear clothes with the store name emblazened across the front to be cool. I don't see the point. To me it is much cooler to have a variety of nice clothes from a clearance rack at a department store, than to have a limited amount of really cool clothes.
She will also soon want to get the cute colorful and lacy bras with matching panties. Once they start Middle School and have to change for gym in a locker room in front of 'everybody' they want the cute undies. There is nothing more humilating to a young girl than to have the Miss Popularity at school hollor across the lunch room 'hey look here comes Patty she wears granny panties and bras'. Luckily I worked at Penney's at that time and I would get the cute undies on clearance and with my discount.
Then next comes the SHOES. Sometimes I miss it. Not the drama but the fun shopping trips.

Honestly if the prices are out of your budget have her babysit or get a job if she's old enough. She will learn to appreciate her clothes more if she has to work for them.

My girls are 13 and 11..........all we shop is Aeropostale and American Eagle. Thank goodness they have great sales going almost all the time. Boring to me, yes! But it makes them happy and fitting in, does matter. Hollister does have good clearance too, but we don't go there too often. We are going to try Plato's Closet next, they are excited to go shopping there soon! Target and Walmart have some fun graphic tee shirts too!

I have a 16 yr old and she has been an avid Abercrombie and hollister since she was 12. They are good clothes... yes, they are pricey.

We do buy a lot off the rack but she also gets some great deals on the sale stuff located in the back of the store.

She is still wearing some of the clothes she has had for years. When it gets to the point where she is no longer interested or ready for a different style, I send them to the women's shelter so someone else can get good use out of something maybe they could not buy.

They typically do not have "coupons" but they do have deals where you earn Hollister or Abercrombie bucks when you spend so much and then you get money off your next purchase. They usually run this type of deal when they put new seasonal things out.

Also, I don't know about your location but there is a store here called Plato's closet and it is where teens sell their expensive clothing and they resell it to the public.

ETA: Not everyone who shops at these places are doing to to be "cool" and in the popular crowd to humiliate those who are not in the popular crowd. I tend to resent comments like that because it labels everyone negatively and that is not what it is like with our teens and friends. It depends on your area I suppose.

When my 16-year old was in Middle school, she figured out quickly that for what she spent for one or two articles at American Eagle or Hollister, she could buy half a dozen or more pieces at JCPenney, Kohl's and Target off their sale or clearance racks. Old Navy is good (more for tops, imo), too, as is TJ Maxx. She still likes those stores as well as the penny sales at Wet Seal, not so much Aeropostale anymore, but that was good when they had clearance sales and she "needed" new clothes every few months-haha. Jewelry sometimes makes an outfit, and we have done well at Target and Penneys (again, clearance racks are great to look through). Also Plato's is a hit and not sure if you have Discovery by you, but that is good for inexpensive, cute, colorful clothing.

Try Delia's. They have frequent buyer punch cards and coupons. My daughter is 11 and also loves Aeropostale but I agree, it all looks the same. Hollister is way too pricey. My daughter can wear a 00 and is happy with their selection. Though she could still wear Justice stuff, it's too juvenile for her. Sigh...

My daughter likes Wet Seal, TJ Max, Burlington Coat Factory and Kohl's plus some things from Hot Topic. Gordman's has cute clothes too (lots of clearance tags also). I am glad she doesn't wear Aeropostle & Holister. I see too much of the same thing all the time and I always say "I should get a Tshirt that says Kohl's" . That's all it is just a a store name on a shirt. My daughter sets her own styles and people always compliment her even the teachers.

Yes! My daughter loves Hollister! There are a lot of coupons at retailmenot.com, but they do have sale going on right now for their must have jeans! All are $20 and up, which is a VERY good deal for Hollister. If you're on their email list, you might occasionally get coupons, but usually it's just what they're planning to do/what their new season's clothes will have. We also shop at abercrombie kids or the regular abercrombie, aeropostale, delias, forever 21, pacsun, american eagle, love culture, h&m, and occasionally oldnavy and gap!
