I am wanting to cloth diaper my son (due in August) and do not know which way to turn. I did not cloth diaper my daughter but I am going to stay home with the kids now and think I could do this! I do not have a ton of money right now to spend on them so has anyone used the Babyland Cloth Diapers I found on Ebay? Pros and Cons please and any other recommendations are always welcome :)

Thank you,

What can I do next?

I used a cloth diaper service for all three of my kids. It was A LOT cheaper that disposables, and very convenient, once a week I put the dirty diapers on the porch pail and all, and they came and replaced it with a fresh pail of clean diapers, billed me by mail....I always enjoyed having diapers to use for other things around the house.....was Cuddlebuns, not sure if they're a national company but I would recommend them to anyone. In fact it was sad when my youngest was finally potty trained, I had struck up a friendship with the diaper guy exchanging baby stories over the years. Good luck!

HI J.,

Cloth diapers are great! The only problem I have with a diaper service is that they use bleach to disinfect the diapers. Bleach is a neurotoxin and also a respiratory irritant and can cause a lot of issues in little ones. One thing your little one needs is a strong immune system and most laundry detergents contain bleach and then these services add bleach.

If you're interested in exploring alternatives that disinfect as well if not better and are completely safe, let me know. I'll be glad to get you some information.

God bless and congratulations!

I did not know about the great cloth diapers that exist now when my daughter now 4.5 was a baby. I cared for a little one who was cloth diapered and i think its super. Her mother bought used ones on ebay. She tried different types to find out what worked best. Even though they are pricey so are disposables, it all adds up in the end. Are you getting a baby shower? Oh and bum genius was brand that she used. If I remember any others I'll let you know the names. Also the cloth diapers were expandable so they "grew" with the baby.

While your upfront cost is more you save soooo much in the long run! You could gradually add to your diaper stash as you get the funds but you can also create a registry at most diaper sites. I have done very well with pinstripesandpolkasdots.com and greenmountaindiapers.com

If you go with prefolds and covers it is much cheaper than pocket or all in one diapers. I love my pockets and aios better but I am still using the same prefolds I bought when my daughter was 4 months old and she is about to turn 2! Talk about savings! I bought 2 doz prefolds and 5 covers and they have held me for a long, long time! And 2 doz was more than enough. I would wash every other day or so when she was younger. I use the bummis and bluberry covers. But if I had it to do over I would only buy things that will carry me thru more than one size to stretch my dollar farther.

Thirsties also now makes a Duo diaper that will carry baby from birth to 18lbs. Then the size 2 carries baby from 18-40lbs! They also make a cover version of it as well to go with prefolds.

If you buy prefolds definitely spend your money at green mountain diapers. They are the gold standard of prefolds. Like I said mine have held up for almost 2 years! I use them in rotation (so the same diapers arent' getting used over and over-the ones that get washed go to the bottom of the clean pile), I rarely bleach, never use vinegar (acids will break down your diapers faster), don't soak, use a tablespoon of diaper compatible detergent (like Arm & Hammer Free & Clear Essentials), do a cold pre-rinse, hot wash with tablespoon of detergent/rinse, then hot wash/rinse cycle with no detergent.
