Clear Bottles... Are They Safe?

If you saw my previous post, you'll see that my sister has a lot of "advice" or things to say about safety/health of babies. She recently read about and told me about a chemical used to process clear bottles and how it can be excreted into the milk. She's telling me I should be using opaque (colored) bottles to feed my baby. Once again, making me feel bad for giving her milk in clear bottles for 5 1/2 months. (My sister never had to use bottles.) My question is should I really worry about this and run out to buy new bottles? What if my baby doesn't want to take another kind of bottle? I just know if I don't go out and get the other bottles I'll hear something about it again. What do you think I should do?

What can I do next?

I think these days you can find research to back up any argument. My son was born with a cleft lip and palate, I was unable to breastfeed in the conventional way. He was simply unable to latch on. I did pump milk for several months though, and I did use clear bottles throughout his infancy. My son turned out just fine. I honestly don't think that the color of the bottle could possibly make a difference. You can't protect your child from everything, worrying about the color of a bottle and how it will affect your child seems silly. You should probably have a talk with your sister. Tell her you appriciate her advice, but you would like to make your own desicons regarding your child's well being. There's no right or wrong way to love your child.

don't you think everyone would be freaking out if clear bottles were leaking chemicals into milk? i haven't seen an opaque bottle around since my brother was a baby. if you pay attention to everything you read you'll go insane. and does your sister plan on going out and spending fifty bucks on new bottles? hell no she's not! i think you need to just find a nice way to tell her to shut her pie hole!

Check out this website:

It is biased for the plastics industry but hopefully it'll shed some light on the issue.
Good Luck.
