Hello all,
I am getting ready to clean my entire house and I was wondering what would be better to use to clean the walls. Vinegar and water or baking soda and water? I am trying to disinfect and clean off finger prints. I am trying to be more "Green" in my household cleaning. Thanks for the suggestions.
Thank you all for your responeses. I have tired some of the replies and the house is clean and sparkly. I am going to go get the shark steamer this week. the magic eraser really helped with the stubborn spots and the vinegar smell went away qickly as we aired out the house too. Thank you all again!!!!

In case you've not heard of this product: Magic Eraser by Mr. Clean. You will be able to remove marks and scuffs that you never thought you could. It's a fabulous product; highly recommended. It doesn't do anything about disinfecting, but when you get to those spots that just won't come off... Magic Eraser!

Do you have a bottle of rubbing alcohol around the house? I make my own cleaner from about 1/4 c rubbing alcohol, 1-2 drops dish soap and warm water mixed in a spray bottle. It works great on everything from greasy stovetops to mirrors and windows. Not to mention it doesn't have the strong smell of vinegar. I figure they use alcohol in hospitals and doctors offices as a disinfectant so why not use it at home for the same thing.
Oh good, I thought it was just me who wanted to start my spring cleaning early. HAHA I am going to use Vinegar and water also. I see some other ideas here that I would like to try also. Happy cleaning!
I would use the Vinegar as well. I use the vinegar/water solution all the time in my house. It works great as an all purpose kind of cleaner, just make sure to test spots before you use it on them to make sure it won't harm that area. I love it around the kitchen as well it does wonders.
I vote Vinegar and water. In my experience, baking soda can leave a white film that you have to go back and clean off, but it's excellent for getting crayon off the walls.
Vinegar. I use Mr. Clean Magic Erasers very sparingly because it is too good. It will take the finish off wood and the sheen off of paint with the lightest little scrubbing.
Neither, if you want a Green house, try Mr Clean magic erasers! They are fabulous, no chemicals and remove all the scuffs, crayon, dirt and so on. Just for basic cleaning, the vineagar and water works best, just have to live with smell.
If you can afford it I would go to Wal-mart and go to their, carpert cleaner area and buy the shark steamer, I don't know if I am explaining it right. It is a steaming machine that will clean wall, stoves fridges, ect,....I am getting it this week. My mom has one in California and LOVES it, no more chemicals, except to occasionaly bleach out something. She has very little tolerance for chemicals. Just a thought.
I have recenly been using a new cleaning line made by Clorox. It is called "Green Works" - I love the fact that it is environmentally friendly and contains no chemicals (not even bleach) but yet it cleans very well and has a slight lemon scent. I have used both the liquid cleaner and the glass and surface cleaner (like windex) and will continue to use them because they clean reat and I fell like I am doing my part "bein green"... I found a recipe for cleaning walls and almostanything else from a newsletter from Everydaycheapskates.com it was 1Tbsp boax(found on the laundry aisle) 3/8 cup vinager and 1 quart hot water. this web sites had lots of information and tips for solutions and saving money you can get a newsletter sent to your email box. thanks Debbie
I would be careful with the magic erasers. I saw a story on the news about children using them to "help" clean and they got chemical burns on their skin from it. They said that it contains aceton, which is the same thing that is in nail polish remover. They said that it was ok for adults to use, just make sure to wash your hands and don't let the kids play with them. Good luck and happy cleaning.
