dd vomited on the couch, its leather so not really a big deal till you add the fact the the cushions were off, i have a piece of carpet on top of the hideabed to make sitting on it less saggy, so that plus the hideabed mesh and the bamboo floor got a good layer of vomit on it. whilst cleaning i got to thinking how do other mothers clean up vomit? is my method a good one or am i doing it the hard way? so share your vomit cleaning methods and list any alternative names you use for vomiting (to make things interesting) we use puke, hork upchuck and vomit as well as throw up.
she vomited out of the blue, no warning. and has been fine ever since. after the first puke they get a bucket and always make it in that so theres no mess. but yesterdays came without warning. i had it cleaned up by the time i posted but like reading how others clean up after a sudden puke.
and i giggled at the barf... forgot about that one!

Ralph is my go to word choice. I spent the better part of nine months doing it and it was least offensive term I could come up with. Hurl is another one.

Nature's Miracle on things like the dog bed, mattress, blankets. Vinegar or antibacterial wipes on hard surfaces, depending on volume.

In my house it's "ewwwwww, he threw up, gross, I am NOT cleaning that up!!" even when it is a cat hairball or one ate too fast.
To get the stuff out, I clean it as best I can. In your case, I would be out getting another piece of carpet and throw the other out. I have used a little dish soap in hot water to get the nastiness out, then a spray bottle with half water, half white vinegar to get rid of that smell. Sometimes it is a spray, dry, repeat deal. For the floor, that is the easy part.
Knock on wood, we've not had barf on something hard to clean (barf is our word of choice).
I have always done this when my kids were sick - we lay old towels everywhere to cover every surface and leave buckets nearby child. So if I had a barfing child, my couch would be covered with old coverlets (thick so barf won't seep through). We even line the hallway upstairs (carpeted) with towels so if they feel the need to run to bathroom, there's no puke on the carpet.
Some sprays/cleaners that work for pet vomit also work well for people vomit too.
I am a sympathetic vomiter (sp?) so I get out of that. If you have it on an impermeable surface you can pour rubbing alcohol on it and it will get rid of that sliminess making it easier to clean. Otherwise, I don't know because I don't do it. I clean all the blood.
I had to clean up my own vomit on Sunday in my car. It was gross.
I have leather seats in my car. I used diaper wipes and then disinfectant wipes.
if they are still sick today? I would put sheets down wherever he's laying to have an extra layer in there....

When I was teaching, there was some product that was used a lot in schools and summer camps that helps solidify/absorb the vomit and make it easier to pick up/sweep up by making it more solid. It's especially useful on carpet so it would work on fabric as well, I think. I know that's so little to go on, but try searching on line or calling a couple of camps for advice. Good luck.
I learned while working for veterinarians that the best thing for cleaning any stain from a bodily fluid/secretion/excretion is hydrogen peroxide.
