I have done the bathtub method. But, if you can hang them outside, it is much easier. I place them on the clothesline in the yard with the weight of the top part holding it on and hose them down. Usually the dust comes right off. Any bad spots are easy to wipe. You can use a solution of vinegar and soap if they seem really bad. I put this is a spray bottle and give it a minute or two. I try to do it this way when it first gets nice out and then again before the weather gets bad. My husband sometimes vacuums them in the winter to keep the dust down.

Hi T.,
Hopefully this won't be too much work for you but, I clean houses for a living and when cleaning those particular blinds I usually fill the tub with very hot water and bleach and lay the blinds in the tub for about 10 to 15 minutes. After I the dirt has come off of the blinds I lay them down on a huge towel (or something of your liking) let the water drain off and wipe clean. They look just like new.
Hope this helps.

Warm to hot water in a bathtub and liquid dishwasher (NOT dish soap - the kind for the dishwasher). Mix it in the water and soak your blinds for as long as you see fit. Then rinse and wipe off any remaining dirt. (Although I just did this and only had "powder" and it worked fine.) Air dry for a bit. I just put them outside, laying, on my deck.

Works very well on aluminum blinds, too. No water spots.

Hi mom I thought I was the only one to do this, well I hang them outside on the fence and hose them down then spray some type of cleaning solution on them and brush them down then hose them again then let them hang out until they dry if you do not have a fence then used the bath tub. One thing about this I was surpise they did not tear it was perfect. Good Luck

if you can soak them in the tub with vinegar and soap and hot water. Or go to Big lots and in the blind section they have this lillte brush, that fits into the slants. cheap but totally worth it.

That was my job as a kid and I hated it. There are 2 ways and neither are super-fast but they both work.

1. lycol wipes while the blinds are still hanging. Does a pretty good job.
2. put them in the bathtub. this is more thorough but it does mean taking them down and putting them up again. I had to do that at my parents' house as a kid cuz they were yellowed from my parents smoking and the bath tub with bleach was the only way to get the smell and color (mostly) out.

I started helping my mom clean blinds with wipes at age 5 or 6 and I actually enjoyed it. In a couple of years your little guy'll be able to help you!

***I enjoyed cleaning blinds at 5 or 6 but at 12 and 13 I hated cleaning them. I just realized I make a contradiction in my post haha. Anyway my point is enlist your kid's help while he's interested and enjoy it while it lasts lol

I haven't tried the swifter mentioned earlier, but the bathtub method ... yuck! We've decided to buy the cheapest ones at Walmart (or wherever) and just buy new ones when the old ones get too dirty! LOL!!
