If she's not good with a computer then she shouldn't online date. Unless she's 26, thin, with big boobs and her pics show her doing jell-o shots or her profile screams "I'll suck your d*ck all night" she's going to have to do some WORK online to find a "companion". Unless you really mean "companion" and then that's a different kind of online site....lol.
To be even MODERATELY successful with online dating you have to be online EVERY DAY. Guys will "search" based on recently online. You also have to change your profile frequently... posting "exciting" news about all the cool things you do that will make eligible suitors want to stop drooling over the aforementioned 26 year old and actually date someone close to their age who is not perfect. Also she will have to contact guys, so she will need to be comfortable searching, composing emails etc.
The only person I would think would have LESS luck online dating than a 40 year old un-perfect single mom (ie me) would be a 60 year old. Because even if she's perfect and looks like Morgan Fairchild it's the 60 year olds who want to date ME. I'm not kidding. MOST of the guys who contact me are 50-65.
40 -45 year olds want to date an attractive, fun, laid-back 26-35 year olds. That's what they all specify. Even though they are overweight, balding, have only a high-school education and are currently employed part-time.
It's pretty disheartening.
What your friend needs to do is join a group that does things she enjoys.
Actually - I think 4th Pres on MIchigan has an Over 50+ 'activities' group for single adults. They used to anyway. She can go to some of their activities even if she's not religious.
Also - there is an adult education paper that offers classes. She should pick a couple and go to them. There are bound to be people there who share her interests. Even if the people there are all women, some of them may know single men.....
Oh - and we used Molly Maids. They're all bonded.
Good Luck.
