We ended up using Nystatin (prescribed by the doctor, and is actually similar to what they use for Thrush, just applied to a different area) and it FINALLY went away in about 2 days.
My 7 month old has had chronic diaper rash since... I can't even remember. We have tried everything we could think of, normal rash cream, neosporin, antifungal, new wipes, different diapers, washclothes etc. Has anyone experienced this and what did you do? Could it be an allergy that is presenting itself? She has been on baby food for three months but the diaper rash was present even before that. Any ideas would be great!

It could be citrus things aggravating the diaper rash. This could be from food or ingredients in wipes/diapers. My daughter had diaper rash for a while and we tried all different kinds of wipes and some of them even made it worse. Using Cedaphil w washcloth works great or try the Pampers Sensitive wipes. Also try Bag Balm and Triple Paste. Triple Paste worked wonders on my daughter. Hope this helps and hand in there!
my dd had a rash that wouldn't go away and finally a pediatrition had me get some monostat for a yeast infection--it cleared it right up.
I also like to use the A+D original cream when a rash is bad it seems to work best for the bad ones.
You can also try Plain Yogurt. If it's a type of yeast, the yogurt will clear it up! Also, after diaper changes and baths, use your hair dryer to make sure that it is really dry in all of those places. It makes a real difference.
My daughter had chronic yeast, and then my son, he broke out EVERY time he had Apple juice. Not grape, pear, or orange, just Apple.
Hope this helps!
i have a suggestion. have you tried renew lotion? or melagel?
those both work like miracles for my son.
if you want more info on them let me know. i'll share the details with ya.

Every baby is different and of course you need to talk with your dr. My baby never responded well to the traditional diaper rash creams. We used nystatin on him that would clear it up, or just lamisil which is over the counter. Whenever he has break outs, i use the lamisil with the lamisil powder. If it is a yeast, the corn starch will feed the yeast and make it worse. My son had allergies, they were evidenced with a head to toe rash, not a diaper rash. It sounds like you have tried everything. Good luck. We have found the best disposable diapers for rash are actually the cheapest-store brand. Pampers etc. Usually make it worse. Good luck!
Could be an allergy. I would definately recommend taking her off of dairy until it clears up. If it doesnt clear up, then I would most definaetely check into cloth diapers. They are fabulous.
The reason I say to take dairy out of your diet is because if this is a yeast type rash, yeast LOVES sugars and the lactose in the milk is a sugar and it will help the yeast breed.
Apart from that cloth diapers are wonderful for keeping rashes at bay. Both my daughters had cronic rashes. My oldest had it so severely that she would bleed where ever the rash was. If I had known how fabulous cloth diapers were then, I would most definately have switched. My youngest hasnt had a really bad rash except for if she sat in her poop too long (which would give any baby a rash) EVER. They are fabulous.
Here is the place I go to exclusively for all my diapering needs,
Mylanta and Cornstarch. Make a paste. Smear on butt.
Hope this helps!
Works wonders for us.
It could be an allergy have your Dr check it out.
Also try equal parts of Aqua Phor cream and Maalox and mix them and heat for a second then put it in a plastic container! It is awesome stuff to take the burn out of the rash and heal it faster, also protecting the skin.
I agree with Sarah S- try to let that booty get some fresh air. I might be a bit messy, but it can help!
Cloth diapers, she may be alergic to the stuff in the diapers that sucks up mositure. Oh, and also let her go diaperless for a bit each day. Fresh air can help clear up a diaper rash too.
I have to agree with one of your other responses - go to the pediatrician and ask about a yeast infection rash - they tend to not respond to normal diaper creams. My daughter got them frequently when she was under 12 months - Nystatin is the best medicine (prescription).
For regular protection, use something with a high amount of zinc oxide in it - like Desitin. It will help. My pediatrician also likes Aquaphor as a barrier.
Naked helps a diaper rash - not a yeast infection - but a diaper rash. Have your little one run naked and have a great time!
I agree...have it checked out. My daughter came home from the hospital with an infection that needed prescribed lotion and it cleared up right away. Further more...FRUIT did this to all four of my children. I ended up keeping them off any fruit that had acid in it. They would get horrible blisters from just one jar of fruit and I was crazy about never allowing my children to be in dirty diapers.
I agree with the advice to have the pediatrician check for infection.
I love Bag Balm. It comes in a green square tin can and is far superior to any other diaper rash cream. Look for it at pharmacies.
I know many moms who loved cloth diapers but they didn't work for us. We did air it out often and that seemed to work better.
First like everyone said to try and rule out a yeast infection.
If it's not an infection, try smearing Broudreau'x Butt Paste on her rash and then putting corn starch on it. The Butt Paste is 16% zinc which clears up diaper rash really quick along with the corn starch. My kids both screamed when I put on the Desitin or the bag balm, but not with the zinc.
If you have a pack and play or similar, put some towels down and have her crawl around in it naked. The air does it good.
Teething made both my boys get terrible diaper rash, my Pedi said a lot of babies do this due to the excess saliva they product during this time.
Religiously apply a liquid antacid such as Mylanta. Apply with a cotton ball with each diaper change. I've never seen it fail with any of my children. Also, could be a food sensitivity---fruits and dairy can aggrivate it. Apple juice is a prime culprit as well. Yeast problems are common causes of diaper rash so watch sugars and dairy which aggravate yeast.
