Christmas Movies Rated 'G'

My 5th grader has been given the task of finding a Christmas movie that's rated 'G' that he can bring to his classes Christmas party. So far I've only been able find movies rated 'PG' or movies that my son calls "too babyish."

Just wondering if anyone had any ideas.

ETA - I sent an email to his teacher just to verify the 'G' rating. "The Santa Clause" and "Home Alone" are both rated 'PG."

What can I do next?

I think the only "G" rated films out there are from the '60s!!

How the Grinch Stole Christmas - with Boris Karloff
It's a Wonderful Life (which, I don't think, unfortunately, kids would be interested in)
Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer (with the cheesy animation! :) - but I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!
The Peanuts Christmas Movie
Polar Express (I personally didn't like it).
The Muppets Christmas

What about Elf.. but that's PG. I see your dilemma. And Elf commonsense media says is good for age 7 and up ...

Added: Even the Grinch Stole Christmas (new one) is PG. Even Shrek The Halls is PG (i was thinking of those Ice Age animated ones, etc.

I'm stumped. Not sure what is G any more. Well I Googled it, curious, and Polar Express, Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, and the original Grinch Movie. The original Charlie Brown Christmas and Miracle on 34th Street. I think if you tell her those are your kinds of options, maybe she'll loosen up (hopefully)!

"G" movies are generally "babyish" in the sense that they are geared towards being acceptable for young children (and babies).

It is good that you are checking with the teacher.

I believe that some of the classic old movies are "Not Rated" (things like the old musical "White Christmas"), but that does not mean that they are any more appropriate than a PG movie! Plenty of romance and "adult themes" in some of those.

How about Polar Express? I'm 50 years old and still enjoy watching shows like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Muppet Christmas Carol, Charlie Brown Christmas, Frosty the Snowman, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas etc.

For the 5th grade any of The Santa Clause movies should be fine.
The 2nd and 3rd Santa Clause movies are G rated.

I would ask the teacher to send a list home with the prospective movies on it and ask parents to check yes or no as to if their child is allowed to watch each movie. If they don't get a signed, fill out, list back those kids don't get to watch a movie at all.

There's no way the options are going to be very good, kids watch way more "stuff" in movies than I did my whole childhood and into young adulthood.

Interesting that a 5th grader is still not considered old enough to watch PG movies (and most 5th graders are 10 years old, or about to turn 10), considering the worse they will do is say something like "jerk", which every kid by that age has heard in the playground, but I guess you cannot argue with the teachers. Here are some other options, though they will probably be considered "babyish" because pretty much all G rated movies are just that (even Disney movies are PG rated!): http://www.proteacher.net/discussions/showthread.php?t=38... also see https://www.ranker.com/list/best-g-rated-christmas-movie-...

I think it is great that the movie offering is rated G. That allows everyone to watch. I see one poster suggested that a note get sent home and the kids that don't get the form returned, just don't get to watch a movie. Geez, nice holiday spirit there . . .

Personally, I'd find 5 movies that are rated G (I saw some great suggestions below) and have your son pick one. Remind him that he was given a job with certain rules (just like in the real world) and even if HE doesn't like the movie or thinks it is babyish, the teacher gave him this job because she believes he will consider the class as a whole, not just his own opinion about the choices.

Good luck!
