Do you have a pet? You could always write it from his or her point of view! We received one a couple of years ago and it was funny and original :)
Every year we do a Christmas card with a letter of what the family has done the past year. Last year I did the ABC's and every letter told about something in the past year. Several years before, I wrote it from our 3 year old son's perspective. I need some more ideas :o) Can anyone help me out?

You can set it up to look like a discussion on Facebook. A friend of mine makes photo cards and has an awesome one with this design. I think you could do something similar with your holiday letter.
Santa's perspective of your family : )

How about writing it from your husbands point of view?
One year my friend wrote a Christmas letter to be sung to the tune of Jingle bells. It was a hit!
A poem or rhyming letter would be fun.
A friend of ours writes it from the cat's perspective every year. I have to say I got quite a chuckle out of it the first year when I got to the bottom and saw the "signature," and although it's not a surprise anymore, it's still really cute.
An aunt always has a different theme: one year it each item had the name or catch phrase from a different song, another year I think it was movie titles. They are always quite creative, but in all honesty, they're a little hard to follow sometimes.
I wouldn't shy away from repeating an idea though. Write it from your son's perspective again. It'll always be fresh, since he's getting older, his vocabulary is expanding, etc. Have fun!
I've also done the pet perspective thing as suggested by others. I've also done a multiple choice quiz. I've received "letters" that were poems, word finds and crossword puzzles. I love the creative ones.
I think shutterfly.com has a photo card with a Top Ten list that is cute. I do not write a letter & usually send a photo card but this year I did "Christmas wishes" for each of us (for instance: my 3rd grader wishes for no homework, unlimited computer time & a teleportation device (yes, he is already a geek!), and my 2 year old wishes for lots of trains, to run everywhere he goes, & to be the boss of his big brother) and then ended it with our family wishes for good health & happiness for all of our family & friends. I just added the words onto our photo card, but I thought it was a cute way to give everyone a glimpse into what we are up to.
I wouldn't be too cute; it can be kind of irritating. I wouldn't do the poem thing, either. Be straightforward and tell the story of your year, short and sweet. At least, that's what I like to read.
My favorite Christmas letter was from my father in law. He wrote it to be read like the Night Before Christmas. It was funny and everyone enjoyed it. He made sure he mentioned everyone in the immediate family.
Poetry.com has a page where you can type in words and it will bring up rhyming words to help you.
