My almost 18 year old step daughters has been with her boyfriend for over a year now. He's a nice boy, treats her well, excellent grades, respectful, etc...
He's always welcome in our home, but not so much at her moms.
I'm thinking since they have been together for almost 1 1/2 years, I would buy him a little something for Christmas, but I'm at a loss as to what.
He's just started driving, so maybe a gas card?
Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

I think it's nice that you want to include him, and I think a gift that's not too personal would make the most sense for the first year you're doing this.

A gas card is nice, same with movie tickets or a movie/pizza thing. Yes, she can enjoy it too, but that's okay. It sends the message that you are supportive of their relationship.

Also, iTunes gift cards are usually appreciated.

If he's into something like running, a gift certificate to a running store would be fine. My son always needs new running socks or those wicking shirts. You can avoid buying the actual item by doing a gift certificate, but if you want to give him a "thing" to open, then running socks or even some reflective gear for night running is more impersonal than, say, Under Armour!

When boys were that age they had been with same girls for a long time. One of the girls parents gave my son a card game, snacks and a card for a local pizza place. The other girls parents made a gift basket with gas card, scraper for windshield, de-icer for . Air fresher and a mini shovel (we lived a snowy place) both boys loved them.

i'm sure a gas (or movie or dinner or video game or whatever) gift card would be appreciated. i just don't like 'em, unless it's for someone i either don't know or there are extenuating circumstances.
how about making him a little christmas stocking? you can put the gift card in there but also include candy and some little things that big kids still love, like a pack of sharpies, a little LED flashlight for the car, an ice scraper, a dvd.
i have yet to meet anyone who wasn't tickled to get a christmas stocking. putting them together for my boys and their girlies is one of my favorite things to do at christmas.

I would truly pick something they might do together. Maybe a couple's gift.

If you want to buy him an individual thing then it would need to be specific to him, if he takes your girl in his car then a gas card wouldn't be for just him. If he likes to go to an event but your girl doesn't then getting him a ticket to go to that event would be only for him. That would be nice to show him you appreciate him personally.

Welcome to mamapedia!!

Why not ask your daughter what he would like? Do you not know his parents? What do they say he might need or want?

If they go out on dates and to the movies? Maybe a gift card to the movie theater they frequent?

Why not talk with him and ask questions that aren't so obvious? That's what I would do.

Movie gift cards are very nice. So are restaurant gift cards and gas gift cards. If you didn't want to go the gift card route, find out some of his likes and get him something that he likes. My oldest son loves argyle sweaters or vests and my youngest son is all about the logo hoodie.

I ordered an engraved Yeti tumbler for my daughter's boyfriend last year and he LOVED it. Check Etsy for good ideas, you don't have to spend a lot for something personal.
