Chiropractic Treatments for ADD? for Health and Wellness?

I am involved in my local MOMS club and we had a local chiropractor speak at our meeting last week. He spoke about people being overmedicated and that chiropractic treatments are now helping with a number of ailments, to include: ear infections, acid reflux, ADD/ADHD, etc. The chiropractor believes that we should be treating the problem and not the symptoms and does have success stories from families. My 2 older boys have ADD and do take a low dosage of medication for it. I've met with the chiropractor about treatments for my boys and I have no idea what to think. It does make to sense to me how chiropractic treatments can be good for health and wellness, but they are also very costly, the treatments costing $2,000 for the family. Of course, there are no guarantees that the adjustments would help with the ADD, but the chiropractor does believe that it would help with their overall health and wellness. (He did do a scan on all 3 of my boys and found area that need adjusting in my 2 older boys.) Does anyone have an opinion about this? Has anyone specifically used a chiropractor for possible ADD treatments? Thank you very much.

What can I do next?

My niece was also diagnosed ADHD. In her case, I really did not enjoy being in her company. She was on meds for a few years. After her parents consulted with a chiropractor and health nutritionist and began a program created just for her, she's now completely med free, calm, doing beautifully in school. I don't know much about any of it, but I do know that we only get to see her sporadically and the change is profound. She's an absolute delight to be around now. More importantly, she is much happier with herself. Might be worth looking into.

Honestly I go to a chiropractor, BEFORE I go to see an MD...

I go to the chiropractor for EVERYTHING...MD's told me I wouldn't be able to have children without fertility, my chiropractor and I worked together for less than 6 months and I now have two children...without any complications.

I am sure along with the chiropractic care and maybe (usually once a week to maintain a healthy lifestyle, you can even spread it out to every two weeks...) even some natural supplements, you would probably never have to give your child medications again for ADD...

I have been bringing myself, my husband and since the day both of my children were released from the hospital after birth they have seen a chiropractor at least once a week or once every two...

2000.00 for how many treatments...a whole year??? for 5 people...sounds very reasonable to me...

Hi A.,

Our son was diagnosed with ADD in about 4th grade. Children with ADD & ADHD seem to be more sensitive to their surroundings. Especially when allergies are added in. It is very important to rid your home of chemicals. Education is key here. I did a lot of research on ADD, chemicals, etc.
I found out the the laundry detergent I was using at that time had 5 carcinogens in it, the furniture polish I was using had butane & propane gas in it, the dryer sheets had neurotoxins in them, the air fresheners that I was using had desenatisers in them and I got them all at my local grocery store. It is scary to learn these things, but very important.

We didn't quite know what to do either. The doctor's suggested Ritalin and he also tried Adderal. Then he started going into a depression and so the doctor's wanted to put him on Wellbutrin. Then my hubby said enough, and he took him off all of it.

My friend shared with me about the Melaleuca store and we converted our home over to safer products. You really never know how much chemicals affect people and animals.
This helped some.

Take a look at their diets also. Milk, white rice, any product with bleached flour, stay away from these. Stay away from products with white sugar too.
Feel free to visit our website & learn which products can trigger your children's ADD. http://yourchoice.healthyhometour.com.

Funny...we had a chiropractor speak at our MOMS Club meeting in January! :) I personally don't have experience with ADD, but I have talked to people who believe chiro has helped with it. (And ear infections as well.) I myself go for a herniated disk, and am finding relief. Our insurance doesn't cover a dime, but the place I'm going has a great "cash rate" for people with no chiro insurance coverage. Otherwise, perhaps your insurance might cover it (our old insurance, Medica, did). Also, the place I go specializes in all-family, and even has a family adjustment room--bigger, decorated for kids, has toys, so you can bring the whole clan in there. It definitely feels like they "specialize" in kids. And they would tell you that chiro would help ADD. I suppose you can try it, and if it doesn't work, no harm done. But you might find some relief.

I am a Mother of three ages 5 months, 5 years, and 6 1/2 years and also a RN. I believe in Chiropractic treatments. I have taken my children to a chiropractor, but not for ADD.
I feel that their are other alternatives that may help with ADD which are less costly. If you want to talk sometime , let me know.

Hi A.,
I have witnessed GREAT results from chiropractic treatments in young kids. I do believe, however my husband doesn't. I am not a doctor, but these are the things I have seen with my own eyes.
*Before I had our son, I was being treated by a chiropractor, and it just so happened this little boy (say 6-7yrs old) frequently had appts the same time I did. In the beginning this little boy would come in very upset and grumpy, and never talked to anyone. This went on for a while, and then my visits decreased so I didn't see the little boy regularly. ONE YEAR LATER I had an appt and that little boy came in, all happy and saying hello to EVERYONE, I made a comment to the doctor that it was nice to see the boy so happy, and she told me that the boy had Autism. That boy was a completely different person from when I first knew him. It honestly was INCREDIBLE.
*Now our story, I had felt strongly about having our baby adjusted by a chiropractor after I gave birth, my husband did not agree. Although child birth is a natural thing, it made sense to me that the trauma of being pulled out of me made sense for adjustment. It wasn't until I showed my husband how our little baby boy could not keep his head to the left and was beginning to develop a flat head on the right that I could convince him to let me take him to have an adjustment. The chiropractor did WONDERS! Our son is now 3 years old and we have not had one ear infection, in fact our son is NEVER sick! And maybe it is because I am his mom, but we think he is very smart. He is beginning to read words, and call it crazy but I have to think that our attention to detail has helped him today.
I understand it is expensive and can be time consuming but it isn't forever. Our son has not been back for a year and a half. Good luck!

I know you specifically asked about mothers who used chiropractors for ADD treatments, so I apologize if this is wasting your time. I, myself have seen the chiropractor for many health problems (not ADD, however). I truly feel they correct the underlying problems, rather than cover up the symptoms that often times medication will do.

My sister and I were both told by our OB/GYNs that it would be extremely difficult to get pregnant. We went to a chiropractor that also practices kinesiology... and he has been a life saver! I was able to get pregnant the very first month of trying... and my sister within 2 months! Honestly, I've never felt better and I highly recommend seeing a chiropractor for any health issue.

I have been fortunate with insurance covering my bills. I had a problem once, but a few phone calls and I was able to get it straightened out.

I don't deal with ADD- and while you need to refer to your MD as needed, I have gone to chiropractor most of my life- and wouldn't do without mine. I currently go to the best one I've ever found, and can't recommend him highly enough. His name is Dr. Brad Kuntz, and is with Prior Lake Chiropractic. I drive down from Stillwater, and will never go anyplace else. I highly recommend contacting him for a consultation...

As for insurance coverage, check with your insurance. I'm fortunate that mine is covered, but some will cover with a referral, etc. Worth looking into... good luck!

I do this with my kid for there ears and for my older sons ADHD and ODD. I believe it works to a point. My middle son has not been on antibiotics for 4years. at first it will probably cost some. but then you only need maintenence. so it will be worth it in the long run less chemicals in the body makes a difference. Can I ask you who you are seeing my boys see Dr. Chris Frykman.

I also go to a chiropracter in the twin cities that specializes in kinesology. Like someone else said, I go to him for everything. I only go to MD's if he suggests it. My daughter has food and mold allergies. Before we knew what was wrong with her we went to several different MD's and got no answers and no help. After our chiro saw our daughter we got immediate help. I can give you his contact info. if you're interested.

I would definitely find a chiropractor who not only will help your children with their structural/neurological issues, but also review their complete and total welllness that others have eluded to (diet, toxins in the home, allergens, etc.)

It is well worth the price and in the long run will keep your children healthier, smarter and less likely to be "hooked" on medications for the rest of their lives.

Also, please read "Raise a Smarter Child by Kindergarten" by Dr. David Perlmutter - he is a neurologist who makes some pretty bold statements about ADD and treatments in this book.
