Childcare Pay

Buy all this person's favorite foods/drinks, pay admission to activities and a little extra for gas and I say between 125-150 per week would make them happy.

I agree with M.B. always pay their way, and definitley pay for gas. I would pay more than $150 a week, this person could make way more at another job that has less responsibility and less stress. When I used to babysit I got $20/hour and thats when I was 16.

I'd say minimum $10/hour, that ends up $450/week, which is still less than daycare for that many hours.

That's 45 hours a week so $150/week is $3.33/hour... I'd look into what other types of summer jobs there are around you and see what they pay. Minimum wage is $8/hour but that's on the books. So I would think around $6/hour or $270 a week. We pay our nanny $19.50/hour for reference.

We pay $1000 a month for full time child care in a center. If you think 40 hours a week that is only about $6.25 an hour - less than minimum wage in my state!
If you are looking for something affordable consider a center - if you insist on hiring a sitter, remember that you get what you are willing to pay for. I don't think I would be able to find a motivated and trustworthy sitter for less than minimum wage (here almost $9 per hour).

Depends on the age of the child. In my area, that's basically like hiring a nanny and pay would be anywhere from $375 - $500 per week (basically, $75 - $100 per day depending on the age of the child and the number of children). My kids are older so we'll hire my college-age cousin for $150 for two days watching a 5 & 7 year old. When my kids were younger, it was $100 per day for 2-3 kids including an infant. The length of your day will also factor in - my husband and I stagger our work start and end times so that we need about 8 hours of care, sometimes a little more and sometimes a little less. 9 hours at work for you plus a commute could easily be 10 - 11 hours of care and that should cost you more than someone paying for 8 hours of care would pay.

Considering she's old enough to have a retail summer job at 8 bucks an hour...

Do you have any friends with kids old enough to babysit? Maybe like a freshman in highschool who is off for the summer, (depending on the age of your child of course, you would have to say if that was appropriate.) You could probably get them to do it for $100/week or maybe even a little less.......

Try and find a teacher that's off for the summer or a provider that has teachers that are off for the summer. Teenagers are not reliable and even the best ones with decent morals still need to earn some serious cash as they are preparing for their college classes in the fall. It's not even right or smart to put a full time schedule on a very young person and then only want to pay them the going rate for an in-home provider.

I am supposing in CA that the going rate for a licensed in-home caregiver is around 140-150 per week. If you were in San Diego you could get illegals to do it for about 80 bucks per week in your home. But they wouldn't speak English. I lived their for 4 years and they often would do even 2-3 kids for that price. I couldn't make a living at daycare the way I needed while competing with that.

Somewhere between $5-$10 an hour. Go to care.com...they will have summer child care & rates.

i pay $125.00 a week for a family daycare 5 days a week from 730-530....so id def. say within the 125-150 range.....

When I was 15 (mid-90's) I watched two kids from 7-4:30 Monday through Friday and I got...........$50 per week!!!!!!!!!!!! That's not reasonable! You are also in CA while I am in IL so I am sure there is a huge difference in pay expectations as well. I guess in the range of $5-$8....

Whatever rate you decide on, insist your sitter have at minimum infant/child/adult CPR and first aid training.

I pay $50 a day - so $250 a week 7:30-5:30 is when she is watching 1 kid.
