Hello All,
I had plans to take my kids to see their cousins today. However, my sister told me that my nephew threw up once yesterday morning. Then he was fine the rest of the day and managed to keep all meals down. He then threw up once over the night, but is fine today. It sounds odd to me, but I'm guessing this could still be a stomach bug and we should probably stay away. What do you think?
I'm sure everyone is right so I stayed home. We know many people who have had stomach bugs recently, and would like to keep it out of our house! I wasn't sure if anyone had seen that pattern before and if it was indicative of something else.

When puking is involved I don't take any chances.
I'd stay home. When my kids get stomach bugs, that is how they are. Once or twice they throw up and thats it... all the while the neighbor kid is vomiting all day with (assumably) the same virus.
I definitely would not go if if the child was recently ill, especially within 24 hours. If my daughter is sick during the night, it's usually a good indicator that she's not well enough to attend school or a playdate.
Stay home for a few more days. No reason to chance it! Kids react very differently to the same illness. For your nephew it may be occassional vomitting, for your children it could turn into a full-blown flu!
I would stay away too. nothing worse than catching a stomach bug, especially one that lingers.
Based only on the info you gave, I would wait a few days just to be sure...if the child was in school or daycare, he would not be allowed back until 24 hours after vomitting. But, this is family not school so you can be a bit more flexible.
Questions that may make a difference...does he have or did he have a fever? Had he been sick before this and this is just the last part? Or was this new? Does the child have migranes that prompts the vomitting? I ask that last one because my son started with migranes when he was 4. He would suddenly have a headache and often before they could check his temperature, he would vomit. By the time I would reach him, he was fine. Sometimes he would still have the headache...he'd go home and lay down and wake up eating like a horse. Once he vomitted on the soccer field just before halftime was over, within seconds, he was ready to play....migranes!
I agree with everyone else! A virus isn't always a all day long puke fest! It can rear its ugly head once a day for 3-4 days and still be contagious and your little ones can still get it. I would reschedule for next week just to be safe. Vomiting is the worst!
I would stay away if it was my children. If he hadn't done it last night I might consider it but doew not sound like he's over what ever he has.
unless you thoroughly enjoy cleaning vomit, i'd stay away until he is at LEAST 24 hours past vomiting without meds...
