We have a Katch A Kid safety fence. If a permanent wrought iron fence isn't possible (I think they look nicer), then I would take this option if I had to do it again. There is no way my six year old could open any of the hooks that connect the screens together. And, she couldn't get the gate latch open either. If she were really crafty, she might be able to figure out how to push lawn furniture up to it and get over the fence. But, only an older child who presumabley knows how to swim could do this and in my mind this becomes more of a discipline issue, not one of safety. Plus, I don't leave them outside by themselves yet anyway. (I also have a 1 and 3 yr old.) I have been to a friend's house with the safety net. I believe 100% in the safety of it, but it is a pain keeping the little ones away. They want to crawl on it and use it as a jungle gym. Their legs get caught in the ropes. I am happy we didn't choose that option. One more thought on the safety fence, it isn't as hard as the sales rep told us it would be to take it down entirely or put it back up. My husband and I can do it easily in 15 minutes. We have only done this once, but I remember it being a concern when we bought it. Hope this helps.
