Hello all! I was just wondering what you moms decided to do regarding the Chicken Pox vaccination. My son just turned 1 and we have his 12 month doctor visit in a week. I am interested in finding out how many of you opted to have your child vaccinated against the Chicken Pox virus. If you did vaccinate, did you do it when your child was 12-15 months or did you wait until they were a little older? I would appreciate any input/advice!

What can I do next?

My oldest didn't have the option of the chicken pox vaccine, so he just dealt with chicken pox. My younger ones all got the vaccine, but at about 3 yrs old. It is now required in many school districts and preschools/daycares. It does NOT protect against chicken pox forever, so getting it now may leave your child open to it when they are older, when chicken pox can be more damaging. So, we're all kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place.

There are studies showing that shingles is now being seen in children as young as 12, that have had this vaccine. Shingles can do permanent nerve damage and leave it's host in pain for the rest of their life.

Children who contract chicken pox naturally are better protected later in life from contracting shingles.

I would think long and hard about the risks & do massive amounts of research. I would include research from the holistic community so you get more than one perspective.

good article if you are left of center, other wise you may think I am a quack. I highly recommend this book before you make your decision:

What ever you choose, do it with faith that you are making the best decision for your children.

We did not do the chicken pox vaccine. They both got chicken pox at a very young age and got over it quickly and, hopefully, it boosted their immune system.

Hi,

I will talk to the Pediatrician about spreading all the vaccines he is suppose to have at this time. I have a 2 year old son with Autism and I saw first hand a drastic change at 18 months after his vaccines. I do not believe this cause the Autism. There is no known cause for Autism but I believe in prevention. I wish I knew this before!

Hello! I opted to give the vaccine to all 3 of my girls and I am glad I did! We have had no side effects..and have seen other close friends get chicken pox and we have not! I think it's a personal choice, but I think it has really helped keep us from getting chicken pox. We gave the shot as soon as the doctor recommended. Good luck and God bless!

I did not. If they get it naturally they will have a immunity that will last their whole life. Yes they will get sick. They will feel like crud for a few days. The chances of them getting a case that is severe is small and if they did the treatment options are plentiful. If there were no treatment options for severe cases, if medical care was poor, if there was a high risk of death we would do it in a heartbeat but it just isn't the case. Same reason we don't do the flu shot.
