Hi Moms- My son was vaccinated for Chicken Pox when he was 12 months old. He is now 2 1/2 and he has the Chicken Pox. Its a very mild case, and it doesnt seem to be bothering him at all. Today is only the second day, so we'll see how he does the rest of the week.
My daughter is 5 months old. I'm hoping that she doesnt get them. But, chances are good she is next.
Are there any moms out there with children who got chicken pox after their kids were vaccinated?? Any moms with young babies who got Chicken Pox? If so, were the babies miserable??
My son actually got a mild case FROM the vaccine. The Dr said this does happen in rare instances. He was absolutely covered, but he didn't seem to be itchy or uncomfortable...he was 12 months...
My son got them at 1 1/2 and thank goddness for those liitle mits that cover the hands. Tynole and mits (some sort of soft gloves) will help. It is much bettter for them to get the pox younger then older. That is what my ped said. A.
I don't have that exact experience, but I can tell you that I personally had them three times and never developed the antibodies.
I know the first time I had them, I didn't get them too terribly, but I did pass them to my dad who ended up in the hospital. This happened when I was around 9 months old, I believe.
I have an 11,7 (in a few weeks) and 3 year old. Both of my younger children were vaccinated and one of them got the chicken pox anyway. Like your son she only had a mild case and it didn't bother her at all. My oldest got it though and was miserable, but she never had the vaccine. The doctor told me that the vaccine will not prevent all cases of chicken pox in kids, but if they do contract it, it will be very mild.
If the baby gets it and seems to be uncomfortable try giving her an oatmeal bath. (Aveeno) That will help with the itching.
My daughter, who is now 16, had the chicken pox at 4 months!!! She was reffered to as the "pox baby"...and she was covered!!! head to toe, front to back!! even in her mouth!!! But she was the happiest baby in the world. I wouldn't worry. i really don't think babies tend to itch. Just do what you normally would for the pox.....keep them cool and out of the sun. Good luck!!!
Initially I was against giving my girls the chicken pox vaccine, until some of their friends got really bad cases. They were unbelievable miserable with itchy spots in every orifice. My doctor told me that even with the shot my girls might get chicken pox but it wouldn't be anywhere near this bad. For the lady that says chicken pox is no big deal, she should have seen the cases I saw. It was a huge deal.

Are we going through the same things with our kids? My older son went through exactly the same thing. I used Aveeno bath and Calamine lotion but he was OK, it wasn't really bothering him. I felt I had to do something, just in case.
Hope your daughter will be OK. It may be tough to go through that with her, poor baby. Good Luck!

My daughter had the chicken pox when she was only 7 months old. She had a pretty mild case and other than a couple of bad days, she was OK. However , my sister's daughter got them at the same time at 3.5 months(we were living together at that point in time), and she got them BAD. She was completely miserable for 2 weeks. I guess it depends on the child. The doctor said that since my daughter had such a mild case, she may get them again when she got older. Well she's almost 11 years old and has yet to get them again even though there were a few cases in her class a couple of years ago.
I actually had a friend growing up that got chicken pox TWICE. I guess the first time it wasn't strong enough to get up her immunity, and she got it back about a year later. Well, look at it this way, your 2 1/2 year old will be safe from getting it at an older, more dangerous age; his immunity should be WAY up after his bout! I wish your little one was a little bigger though, it's going to be rough. But at least she won't remember how miserable she was with it! But she'll be cranky and will probably make you cranky too! The chicken pox vaccine is not really that effective. Chicken pox is not such a big deal and if your baby gets the cpox I would be relieved, when they are young cpox is nothing to worry about and your second one will not have to get vaccinated.
I see your son has allergies/asthma. There is a lot of evidence that vaccines cause both.

I dont think you need to worry, my 6 yr old had it last year and he pretty much ignored it also. Chances are your daughter will get it too, but I think if you constantly treat her skin and bathe her with aveeno she should be ok..she might get a fever, but tylenol should do it. My advice is to check with their pediatrician to be sure, though.
My child hasn't been vaccinated but she hasn't gotten them either, however, I got chicken pox when I was about 9 months old. My sister is 5 years younger than me so she wasn't around then. She did get them when she was 7 and she was so miserable and sick and my father had never had them so he couldn't even be around her for about almost two weeks. My mother said it was a lot easier with me because I was too young to realize what was going on and she just put socks on my hands so I couldn't scratch and it just ran its course. I have two tiny scars and am otherwise unscathed. My sister however was very uncomfortable and cried the whole time and has several scars from persistent scratching. Your better off just letting the baby get them the old fashioned way because obviously its more effective than the vaccine because I never caught tham when my little sis had them and she was sleeping in the bed with me because she felt so sick.
