Chicago Egg Donor Recipients and Clinics

We have been trying to get pregnant for a year now and after many tests we have gotten some disappointing results. IVF is not an option for us, but pregnancy through egg donation is. We are currently focusing on using an egg donor. Has anyone gone this route? Which clinic did you use? How did you find a donor? It is an amazing option but incredibly expensive! We are self employed and carry individual health insurance so none of the costs are covered by our health plan. Any advice or your experiences with this would be so helpful!

I know several people who have used Dr. Randy Morris and have been successful. He also does embryo donation, which is much much cheaper. You can likely google him to find his contact info.

Hi M.,

I have gone through IVF with two subsequent embryo transfers. It was a rough time, but having the right clinic really makes the difference. We went to Dr. Charles Miller in Naperville ###-###-####. He is a great doctor and has very high success rates as compared to other chicagoland clinics. I know that they treat patients who need egg donors as well. When I was at the office there were so many people over 35 (the majority of the patients it looked like). Another recommendation...Chicago Magazine's new issue has just come out and one of the cover stories is about Chicagoland fertility clinics. It provides a pretty good comparison and might be worth a look. I wish you the best of luck. Please hang in there, the whole fertility thing can be hard. Just know that you are not alone and that it does work.

Hi - I don't have much time right now, so I apologize for my briefness. I used CEO (Center for Egg Options) for my donor. They are located in Northbrook. I checked out the other 2 egg donor places (forget all the names, but one was ARR - I hated that place) and liked CEO the best. I cycled at FCI in Highland Park. Dr. Marut was my RE. It worked on the first try and my son is almost 5 1/2 already!!!

Yes, it's expensive, but it was the best 10k (how much it cost in '02) I've ever spent. Good luck!!!

E-mail me if you want more information.

Hi M.,
Although I don't know what the reason behind your diagnosis, I do want to let you know that my husband and I were told by 3 specialists that I didn't have any eggs and needed an egg donor. I went through one round of unsuccessful IVF but did acupuncture for 7 months when I learned I was pregnant with our first daughter (without any medication or fertility treatments). Just before her 1st birthday I went for one acupuncture treatment and was pregnant the next month with our 2nd daughter. In July I gave birth to our 3rd child, a boy, without any acupuncture.

Again, I don't know your medical history, but I wanted to tell you my story to give you hope. They were basing their diagnosis on my FSH levels. I know someone recommended Dr. Charles Miller, however, I wouldn't. He was the first dr. I saw and recommended an egg donor without trying anything at all (solely on the FSH level). I know at least 4 other women who he recommended egg donors to so I'm not sure if his success rates are truly accurate or if he recommends egg donation to simply have a higher success rate. Just my two cents.

Best of luck to you!

Sue

Hi M., I don't know what your specific diagnosis is but I wanted to add my story of "success." I cleaned up my diet (most of the time - I wasn't a saint about this) and did acupuncture/herbs and got pregnant after one round of IUI. This was after 2 miscarriages and lots of bad news as I was over 40. Had a fantastic pregnancy and healthy baby at 42. So, I don't want to give false hope as I know there are circumstances where donor eggs are necessary, but depending on your situation, things are often not as dire as doctors would have you beleive. Google "pregnancy over 40" and see the 100's of women who have babies in their early to late 40's. I just met a woman who had her last at 49 (naturally)! Not sure I aspire to that:-) but it's nice to know. Check out Inconceivable by Julia Indichova and The Fertility Cure by Randine Lewis. Lot of good info and very positive. Julia Indichova has a new book, too, and writes a lot about the amazing journey into motherhood no matter how you get there. Both women have websites. I'm not discouraging you from using donor eggs, but just suggesting that maybe you have other options as well...

M., I worked with a woman (several years ago) who went through 2 rounds of unsuccessful IVF and then successfully had full-term, healthy baby twins through the use of an egg donor. It was completely managed through her Reproductive Endocrinologist. I remember her telling me that the Doctor searched for a donor who had similar physical features as she did (same color hair, same lean build, etc.) to help with resemblance.

I'm sure it is very, very expensive. But I don't know anything else about it. However, I can personally recommend the Doctor she used (as he helped me with some fertility issues). He is the most ethical physician I have ever met:

The Rinehart Center for Reproductive Medicine
The person to see is John S. Rinehart, M.D., Ph.D., J.D.
His offices are in Winfield (Central DuPage Hospital), Downers Grove (Good Sam Hospital) and Evanston (Northwestern Hospital).

Best of luck to you and your husband.

Hi Michelle,

My husband and I were in the same situation. Getting a late start on a family that we so wanted, me 41, my husband 43. Considering the outcome of tests and our age we realized that our best and most successful option would be to go the "egg donor" route.

After much research and many recommendations we went to Dr. Brian Cooper at Mid-Iowa Fertility. 888.306.3060 They have an amazing success rate and Dr. Cooper and the staff is incredible!

Our 1st round of IVF was unsuccessful, but round 2 was a complete success. We now have beautiful 7 month old twins, a girl and a boy. At our age we could not have asked for anything more.

Coming from San Francisco, we thought the price was very reasonable. And with the assistance of a healthcare loan the cost didn't really impact our cashflow.

I could go on with great detail, but as to not start a novel please let me know if you want more information. I would be happy to share the process and our experience.

Wishing you much success!

After three rounds of IVF we tried an egg donor through our fertility clinic. We used Dr. Karande. His main office is in Hoffman Estates. Unfortunately ours was not successful but I know many people who have gone to him and had great success so I would definitely recommend him. Good luck!! Though fertility didn't work for us we now have a beautiful 9 month old son who came to us through domestic adoption so don't give up on your hopes of having a family!

I don't have any input to offer about egg donor, however, if you are blessed enough to get preganat I can guanantee that your nutrition will play a very important role on the health of you and your baby. If you are interested in eating an abundance of fresh fruits and veggies and understand the benefits for you and your child you may be interested in visiting the website below.
