What size is she? There are many of us who have clothes we can probably donate too... Otherwise try Goodwill, Salvation Army and other consignment too. Frequently you can get decent looking and inexpensive stuff at Old Navy downtown, too. Honestly, you don't need that much - maybe 4-5 well-chosen shirts and 2 pairs of pants (black and jeans) and you're covered. It's not an interesting wardrobe, but it does the job. Especially if you're still in school, nobody will really care what you wear.

I bought some very nice used maternity clothes at the Second Child, located on Armitage and Sheffield. I also bought some nice maternity clothes at McShane's Exchange on Armitage as well. Target and Motherhood Maternity (Fullerton and Clyborn) also has some reasonably priced clothes.

Oh my gosh. Old Navy is very affordable. I hope in addition to maternity clothes, she's getting some other help too. She's going to need parenting classes and other basic baby care knowledge. Northwestern does parenting classes for teens. Good luck to her and it's nice that you are helping her out.

I think a donation pool is a good idea. I'm a seasoned thrift store junkie and I learned quickly that it is impossible to find maternity clothes, since they don;t sort them from the non-maternity.

I have several things she is more than welcome to as my babymaking days are over. I'm about a size 8 and it's mostly summer clothing. Please contact me if you're interested.

Here's another thought, if people want to go in on this and drop things off at one location by a given date, then you won't have to drive all over the city picking up clothes. You can just do one pick-up. (I would also be willing to be the pick-up site too.) Let me know what you think, and best of luck to the young mom to be.

I'm sorry to hear that her parents are not being supportive...honestly...if you go to Target or Kmart...the maternity clothes is always on sale!!! SO don't think that you can't afford those clothes...if you can buy her a few things. If not...there are second hand stores that may have maternity clothes...and you could always wash it twice before giving them to her!!! I'd offer to give you my clothes...but it has sentimental value and i was huge...I had my son when i was 24...so sorry about that!! I completely forgot about old navy...they also have a lot of maternity clothes on sale there too!!! Good luck to you and to that girl!!!

How about e-bay or Craig's List? I know lots of people try to sell their maternity clothes at a VERY cheap price. Good luck...

Dear N., Go online to Ebay - they have a huge selection of nearly new or unused maternity clothes. Otherwise, I'd suggest Target. I also believe Kohl's have a selection. I decided to buy the cheapest clothes anyway - it's a waste of money to spend a great deal on maternity wear you'll only use for a short while. If mine weren't so well worn I'd send them to you :)

I remember that there was a thrift store in Evanston that sold maternity clothes. I can't recall the name, but I would google... "maternity clothes thrift store"... and then either put in chicago or evanston. I went there and was able to find loads of things that were top brands... and cute. Also, Craigslist or Ebay can be a good resource but I would try the thrift stores first. Of course, Target has cute things too now. Hope this helps your friend.

Sounds like you have lots of great ideas about the clothes, but I'm thinking about the girl's parents. If you're not helping a 12-year old CHILD who is pregnant, you are neglecting her, and endangering her fetus. I think someone should intervene on behalf of this girl. Social services, DCFS, the school? Does anyone have any ideas? If you know these people well, it could be hard to intervene (and you're certainly helping in a big way already!), but maybe you could steer SOMEONE involved in the right direction.

Try secondhand stores - Unique, Salvation Army, and there are several specifically for maternity clothes that also sell new items. I got most of my maternity clothes secondhand - they don't get used enough to be worn out, so they look great. I am not sure of the names of the stores any more but they may have changed - search online.

However, babydoll style tops are very big this year and she may be able to get by just buying them a size or two larger at Target or Wal-Mart. Bear in mind that a basic wardrobe for any woman (I'm talking rock-bottom here, for example when pregnant or when starting a new job) can be done with four bottoms and 4-6 tops, so you don't need to buy a ton of stuff. Cotton knit pants with a drawstring waist in a bigger size are also good and these can be had at Walgreens for about $7 right now.

There is a Motherhood Maternity outlet on Clybourn and Fullerton. I found tons of very cheap "basics" there like tee-shirts and jeans. A lot of stuff is priced from $5-$20. I will be praying for her...

cheap maternity clothes is a tough one.
i bought a couple tops and tank tops on clearance from old navy (on line or in store). target has a good sale section too.

then even better (cheaper and better style - wise) i went to the thrift store (the brown elephant in oak park specifically) and bought larger sized clothes. they were cheap and i could find things that were my specific style.

also i got shirts or dresses that were not fitted at the chest (baby doll style) which did not need to be from the pregnancy section at the clothing store.

maternity clothes can be cheap but you wear them for such a short period of time.

i am due in @ 2 weeks from now, so soon i will be parting with tops (need to keep the pants for a little post partum time). if you would like them to give to your friend, let me know. id be happy to ship them to you or directly to her. its not much, but it all adds up. they are in great condition. small sizes.

poor girl. if she's tiny, she will probably just need bigger sizes or stretchy clothes. i'm 5'7, gained 30lbs and had very few actual maternity clothes. for inexpensive great stuff, i suggest resale shops: the second child on armitage/sheffield and mcshane's exchange (deals and maternity are upstairs) on armitage/by halsted. all good quality, great prices. good luck!

The Ark on Lincoln and Paulina near Belmont has a maternity section upstairs. Additionally, Unique Thrift has half-price Mondays. They are all over the city.

Have her call the WOMAN'S CENTER, 5116 N. CICERO
3RD FLOOR, CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ###-###-####. They will help her with clothes, furniture for the baby, diapers, food, etc. They have different locations. This is where I went to get my preg. test and I found out that they offered the above.

I have some. I imagine she is thinner than I am but you are welcome to anything I have. Email me and I can arrange to deliver. When is she due? I have some items she could borrow eg. baby bath center, sling, diaper bag etc. I plan on having another but she could use them for a while. If she does change her mind about keeping her baby, there are a variety of resources here in chicago as well.

I will be praying for that family cause that is a really difficult situation. I gave birth to my son when I was 15, but I had a great support system and now is not the time to shun her but God will have to deal with their hearts and heal the hurt that they are experiencing. I know that you can find really affordable maternity clothes at Wal-Mart and Target. Try Those.

Resale stores can be an economical way to get maternity clothes.

I can't even begin to know how her parents must feel. I'm sure they will get through the initial shock as a family. And all will work out fine. In the meantime, thanks for helping her. Try Walmart or Target; Sam's Club or Costco. Also even look into some Thrift Stores. You may even be able to call the Salvation Army for help. Teachers or any other adult may even have Maternity clothes that they can pass down.

I know that Wal-mart and Target both have maternity clothes at affordable prices.I also would like for you to contact True To Life Foundation at ###-###-####. They have teen pregnancy program that may be able to help this young lady.

My daughter just had a baby, she too couldn't afford maaternity clothes. I went to target and bought some for her. They have nice sales on them at time.

Post on Craigslist in the 'Wanted' section. Many people ask for things on that site. You could possibly get women who would donate their unwanted maternity clothes and baby items.

I am due in June and would be happy to give my materinity clothes to her should she need them. Sounds like others have offered as well so maybe you will have enough. I wear a size 10/12 when not pregnant which equates to large tops and medium/large bottoms in maternity clothes. Also, when she has the baby I would be happy to donate to her our baby clothes. If you need my help, let me know.

Target!Target!Target! be sure to look on the clearance racks first... they also have a maternity section, target also has good quality clothes...they are descendant of Marsalfield's (now Macy's)!!! Good luck!!!

I'm glad you're helping out the 12 year old. It sounds like she needs all the help and support she can get! :)

I've found some wonderful deals at Target in their clearance section (they have maternity clothes there) and at Old Navy. I know the Old Navy downtown carries some great maternity clothes.

One other option is to try e-bay. Some women will try to sell their maternity clothes by the box, and you can get an incredible deal.
