Hi guys. My husband and I are thinking about taking a cruise for vacation this year. We've never cruised before, and I was hoping you guys might have some advice. I've heard about places that had really great deals, but I don't know where those are. Also, we really want to leave from Galveston so we don't have to pay airfare. Has anyone had a cruise out of Galveston that they would recommend or say stay away from? Also, I have a 16 month old, do I have to count her as a full traveler? I'm not sure how that works. I'd really love any help.

What can I do next?

Hi C.,
My husband and I took a cruise out of Galveston in May 06. It was awesome. We went to key west, grand cayman and playa del carmen, mexico. We found it on Travelocity and paid around 1200 for 7 night cruise. If you are military, you can get extra discounts. You only have to pay for kids 2 and up, so your kiddo should be free. We cruised on Royal Carib...but a Carnival cruise left the same time and pretty much went the same places we did... they were about 500 bucks more expensive. Oh, and one more thing, if you or anyone in your family has an allergy to mold, you may want to consider getting a room with a balcony on one of the top decks. I was miserable until we got to Key West for some decongestant! Good luck!

Hi! I just moved to the area and have been lurking for about a week. My husband and I went on a cruise with Royal Caribbean for our honeymoon and his side cruises several times a year. It is THE way to travel. For a third person in the same cabin, most cruise lines will give a discount but you need to call them or a travel agency yourself instead of booking online. It is also not as big of a discount as you would imagine. We found our deal online then called Mitch at MyCruiseClub.com. He was able to beat the online price!
I strongly recommend cruising with Royal Caribbean. It is much more family oriented then others for the price. The last minute deals really are as good as they sound too. They just want to fill the boat. Don't forget your passport! Most cruises require it these days, even for the little one.
I love to travel, but I LOVE TO CRUISE!!!!!!
Good luck and have fun!

Hi, C.

My husband and I are taking a cruise out of Galveston this summer - doing the Western Caribbean route. I recommend Carnival Cruise Lines - they have many different ships and all sorts of "themes". Some are more family oriented - when you go online you can see what the ships are like. I have an online travel business, and you can find some great deals for cruises on my website.
http://www.rightstufftravel.net

You can go online and pick the dates and cruises you are interested in, and during the process of entering all your information, there should be a place to indicate you have a child - I believe at 16 months, you shouldn't have to pay full fare.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call or email me.

YOU MUST HAVE PASSPORT now for all cruise travel.

Hi our family cruised out of Galveston 3yrs in a row. You have Carnival which is more children friendly. They have all kinds of stuff for the kids and even for the adults. I think it's very relaxing over the car rides and changing hotels. Here you leave your stuff in the room and don't worry about all the planing you just go where the ship takes you. The food is great even for those picky eaters. We also traveled the Royal Caribean Cruse line they were fun as well. My son like Royal better because on Carnival they made him play duck duck goose and when your his age he said you just don't do that. So who ever you choose you will have a fun and relaxing (yes relaxing) trip. It's cheaper to go in May or June rather in July or Aug. Have a fun and safe trip.

We've cruise on Princess out of Galveston once, to Mexico, Bahamas and Costa Rica. It was great! Pretty inexpensive really. About $750/each for a 7 day cruise. That doesn't include port excursions. As for the little one, you'll pay about 1/2 price plus port fees and taxes. We're going on an Alaskan cruise this summer and that's what we're paying for our 18 month old. Have fun!!
