I'd start giving her milk in a sippy cup. that way you can try weaning her from the bottle at the same time.

This might sound strange but I just added the milk to my son's (all three of them) diet in a sippy cup, and gradually cut the bottles down to where he only took one at night. Then switched out the formula for milk at night in the bottle, then eventually got rid of the night bottle and switched to giving him a sippy cup before bedtime with milk.

This is by far one of the easiest ways and it was also recommended by my peditrician. She told me to do about an ounce every week to two. After the first week then start uping the milk and decresing the formula!!! About a month it takes, but by the end she will be completely off the formula!

Dear M.,

My son just turned 1 years old too and I had a problem where he would not drink the milk for some reason, which I think it is the taste. So what I did is put half formula and half whole milk and gradually took away the formula. It took me about 2 weeks to get him on whole milk. So whoever told you to do that is right.

Just add one oz.of milk to the bottle of formula everytime you give it to her. Increase the amount by one oz. every two to four weeks depending on how she takes it and how fast you want to go. Before you know she should take just a milk bottle.

That is the right way! 6oz formula 2 oz regular vitamin d (whole milk) You can use Organic Milk, or Pasturized Milk. NO FAT or LO FAT IS A NO NO!! Depending on type of forumla (soy or milk based) Speaking from experience of 4 grown children and 1 beautiful grandson 14 months old --- it caused a little problem with loose stools - but slowly (after 1 week - we did 4 oz to 4 oz) he has learned to tolerate the milk. It isn't easy - especially when they are teething at the same time which causes loose stools. Good Luck,

Hello M.,
If you have allergies in your family would be my only concern I did it too soon with my son and he had ear aches until he reached 3 years old back to back. He is now 24 years old but it was not good. They almost put tubes in his ears and everything. My last effort worked. That was going to a Chiropractor believe it or not. It worked!
So good luck to you and have a wonderful day!

Hi M.. I started giving my son plain yogurt to build up the enzymes that he'd need to digest milk. After a month of plain yogurt twice a day, I started replacing one bottle of formula with whole milk to see how he tolerated it. A couple days later I did another and so on until he was only drinking milk. It worked like a charm. He's had no digestive problems and he loves his milk!

Hi M.,
I'm a mother of 2, ages 2 and 4 and successfully weened both to cup and whole milk. I just introduced the sippy cup one week (the soft top or straw top are best to help with future speech development. The next week I switched the milk. If your child is uninterested in whole milk, you might try to add it gradually to the formula but I found that my kids liked the taste of whole milk.
Good Luck!

Hi M.

Yes, you could start doing that way I was recommend by my doctor the same thing. Put half formula and have cow milk or soy milk. I gave my my kids soy formula and I mix it with silk soy milk for first year. I'm pretty sure you to the same with regular formula too! I gave soy formula because it gave less gas than regular. I keep up the good work,

Hi M.,
I am in the same boat! My son is down to two 8 oz bottles a day. In those 8 oz I started out with 6 oz of formula and 2 oz of whole milk. This week we started 4 oz of formula and 4 oz of milk. But I will say last night he wanted some milk in a sippy cup and I just gave him 2 oz of whole milk and he drank it right up. Hope this helps!

I am a childcare provider in Murphy Canyon. My advice is to wean her from the formula at least two weeks prior to her turning one. Start by giving her one feeding of 1/2 cup of whole milk with her meal instead of formula. After three or four days of this add another 1/2 cup of whole milk to another meal, continue doing this until she is completely weaned off the formula. Adding whole milk to her formula will upset her stomach because whole milk has more fat content than formula. The USDA meal pattern for a one year's breakfast is as follows: BK 1/2 cup of whole milk in cup, 1/4 cup of fruit and or 1/4 cup of vegetables, with 1/2 slice of enriched bread or 1/4 cup of enriched whole grain cold dry cereal/hot cooked cereal.

Hi M.. When my son made the swtich, it was kind of easy. I started drinking milk in front of him, in a glass. He, naturally, wanted what I had. So I started giving him sips and drinks of it. Then, one day, I let him have a 4 oz. in a bottle. He loved the taste and started drinking it easily after that. Maybe you could try to do something like that. Good luck and Best Wishes, T.

Hey M.!

My son, Damien, just turned 1 on 2/15/07...what I do is heat 4 oz. of water in the microwave for 50 secs...put 2 scoops of formula in...shake it up...then cool it down by filling the rest of the bottle up with cold whole milk. He LOVES it! I will probably continue to do this for at least another can of formula before I go to milk only...personally, I feel this is the best way to ween...GRADUALLY! Good luck! ;-)

Hi! M.:
My son will be 1 on the 24th and I have started giving him milk in his sippy cup and he gets a formula bottle as the last one for the day. I started this last week and he has done well with it.
Let me know what you decide and how your daughter does.

Hello M.,

My Ped told me to transition the milk in. So, if I used an 8oz bottle, I would put two scoops of formula, shaken first, to the remaining oz's left in the bottle of whole milk. My Ped said my twins have to be on whole milk until they are 2.

Hope this helps you...

Mixing them, like you said, decreasing the amount week by week is how I did it, and my son didn't have any issues with it at all.

Hi,
My son (17 mos) was on breastmilk and we supplemented with formula and around age one we did just like you were told. Decrease formula and add whole milk little by little until he was compleatly off formula and it worked just fine. I was told to be sure to give hime whole milk because the fat in it is important to babies that age until your pediatrician syas otherwise.

When my son was switching from formula to milk. I did it over a period of 6 weeks. Every weeks giving a little less formula and a little more milk. For 7 days the measured ammount would be the same. I did it slow to watch for gas problems but also hopeing the gradual change in flavor would not effect him too much. I had no problems and to this day he loves whole milk cold or hot.
