I'm new to mamasource but probably very timely. I live in Euless but fairly new to the mid-city area, only a resident here a year. We have one child delivered by c-section during an attempt at natural birth in a hospital. Now we are expecting our second and would like to try a certified nurse mid-wife who has a good success rate with VBAC deliveries and preferably in a hospital just for the obstetrical backup if required. Do any of you know of an excellent midwife who has privileges in the local hospitals here that you would highly recommend?
Has anyone else out there had a successful VBAC experience? Thanks for your help with this!

I would just like to reccomend a book to you that was reccomended to me by my cousin who had some of her four babies at home with a mid wife, and it was Husband Coached Childbirth. It was great it help me have my last two without any meds or intervention.
Here is the website for the place I had all four of my kids. I think they have privileges in local hospitals. If not they can direct you to someone who does. I can't speak more highly in the care I received there - I used several different midwives and was very pleased. IF you have any more questions feel free to reply. They can come to where you are or deliver in the center in Grand Prairie. They also have had good success with natural births after a c-section from what I have heard. And they are wonderful at watching the birth/labor careful to make sure you and the baby are safe. You are sent to a hospitol if there is any need for you and the baby to be healthy during the labor.
I too was going to suggest a birth center. Gentle Beginnings has excellent, amazing midwives on staff along with MD connections in case anything doesn't go as planned. It's certainly worth looking into at the very least.
I have four children. I had my two boys under the care of an OB/GYN. When our family moved to the Ft. Worth area and I got pregnant with our third child, several of the ladies in my church had used some CNMs that had hospital privileges at Harris Methodist Downtown.
We had both of our girls with the CNMs and we really loved that experience. I was a lot like you...although I wasn't doing a VBAC. Both of our boys had to be in the first level neo-natal nursery (for different reasons) and I was not comfortable with a home birth or birthing center for that reason.

FWIW several of the birth centers recommended here do not employ Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs). They are Direct Entry Midwives (DEM), often with years and years of wonderful experience, but they do not have medical degrees and do not have privileges at hospitals. Most have a backup OB to refer you to, if needed, though. DEMs are great (I've used two local ones myself) but may not be what you are looking for.
I had my 4th baby with Betty Winfred CNM at Special Beginnings in Grand Prarie. It's a free standing birth center and she is able to take insurance, which is not usually the case with DEMs. It was awesome!

When I looked 2 years ago there were no CNMs practicing at any hospital in the HEB area.
