Central DuPage Hospital Insurance Question

Does anyone work for CDH and use their Blue Cross insurance? If so, does it have infertility coverage? I'm considering accepting a position there, but we really need new insurance that will allow us to try IVF again. Never thought this would be a deciding factor for a job!

Note: I did ask the benefits department, but they told me to call Blue Cross. But they can't give you specific information without the group/ID numbers. Frustrating!

What can I do next?

I don't want to give false information. However, unless the laws have changed since I went through IVF last (4+ years ago), the laws at that time were as follows:

If your employer (employed within the state of IL) is covered under a FULL-insured policy (outside carrier), then the STATE law says that you can get IVF up to 4 times for a first birth (subject to your deductible, copays, etc.). Then the law said that you can have IVF up to 2 additional times after a live birth.

Now, if your employer is SELF-INSURED, they aren't subject to the state laws. In other words, they can write their own rules. Now, just because insurance is through a third party provider, doesn't mean they can't be self-insured. Most self insured plans contract with a large insurance company to act as their administrator, etc.

One question you might want to ask is if they are self-insured or covered by a full-insured policy through a third party.

IL used to be one of like 4 states whereby infertility coverage was standard. Don't know if that is still true though. Research it on-line.

I have BCBS PPO and it covered my fertility treatments/IVF - but not PGD. I had success with my first IVF (after failed IUI) and they would cover 2 more IVFs. Similar to what what Julie H said.

I used to work at CDH, but don't know about the infertility coverage. Try calling the HR department again, explain your situation, and ask if you can get the BCBS insurance packet that they distribute during open enrollment. From what I remember, it was pretty detailed and should contain the information you need.

Can you talk to human resources and get a number to talk to the insurance company?
