I was reading over the posts about getting rid of the landline and only having a cell phone. I would LOVE to do that, but my current cell company (Sprint) actually has dead zones in my house and around my neighborhood. If I lay my phone down in a certain spot in my house, it will ring-- otherwise, all incoming calls go straight to voice mail. I can make outgoing call anywhere, but I would miss most incoming calls.... So my question is which carrier do you use and where are you located?? I live in the Casselberry/Winter Springs area and need to find a reliable company. Also, Metro PCS sounds too good to be true with unlimited calls and no contract, so someone please tell me the catch-- is it bad reception or something?? Are there tons of "dead zones" with Metro PCS??

I called Sprint and my contract isn't up until MAY 2010... so I'm stuck with them. They said they can put a device in my home that will give me better reception-- funny how the last time I complained they said there was a device I could RENT, but this time they say I can use it for free...whatever... I still have issues, though, because the device goes through internet, which I get through my land line because we have no cable... Not sure what I'll do... I'll look into T-Mobile in May and just ride it out with Sprint until then...
We have no house land line but live in the Sanford Area and we have been w/ Verizon & good service. We were in Poinciana for a bit and Verizon was the only one we did not have a problem with. Sprint always dropped & I can't stand ATT service. As for prepaid phones like Metro, etc. I think they cost too much money & not worth the service.
I have been with Verizon forever and they are the only carrier i have used. I have never had any major problems with them. My husband actually wants to get me an Iphone and I told him no because I would have to leave Verizon.
I am with MetroPCS and live in the Casselberry area. I rarely get dropped calls in or out of my home. Metro is good if you don't mind having "blah" customer service and sketchy reception outside of the metro area..Along the major roads it's great though (Beachline, 417, 1-4 etc.) The thing about metro is that yoy have to pay for the phones full price and a good one costs about 100-300 dollars, and if you pay a day late they shut off your service. It is however better than the 450 dollar phone bills I was getting from Nextel/Sprint....Hope this helps!
The "catch" with Metro is that it only works in major cities. I know very few people who have it because I am from a small town. Boost is decent. I currently have at&t, but their prices are ridiculous compared to T-Mobile.
metro pcs is very bad I know some people and the service really is horrible! But I have T-Mobile and I love it! My husband works with all major cell companies doing some advertising and distributing so if you’re looking for a deal or a specific phone let me know his company can beat all retail prices. email me if you need more info at ____@____.com

I live in Winter Springs off of Tuskawilla and I have at&t it works wonderfully.
My husband had t-mobile and it never has service in our house. He has to go on the patio or on the front steps to use his phone at all. And it's not the phone it was the same with his old phone and now this one.
Just so you know if you want to get out of your Sprint contract just tell them you are moving to North Dakota. THey don't have any towers there and will let you cancel no charge. The downside is I'm not sure you can "take your number" to another service. A friend of mine was trying to get out of her contract last year and one of their employees told her this. It's not the most honest thing to do but they are charging you for a service that is not working the way it should so I don't really see a problem with it.

My friend uses Verizon and she does not have any problems. We both live off of 436 near the skating ring. My husband has a nextel for work and I think they are sprint. I don't think he has problems... maybe it is the specific area you are in.... or maybe the phone?
One phone we had when we moved here was NET10 (I think that is what it is called). It is a prepaid, but they do offer unlimited calls for like $70 a month. A good friend in Oregon told as about that service. So it does work across the country, but I think it does have a lot of dead zones. It is something to look into.
Another friend has T-mobile and they have a neat service, when you are home you don't use your minutes... it is as if you have a home phone. And if you leave your house while talking on the phone you still don't use any of your minutes. When you take calls while you are out then it acts like a regular cell.
Since I am home all day I prefer a home phone... but I do not have a cell. My husband has a work cell that we can use on the evenings and weekend.

Service from each provider can differ from your house, to the house across the street. I'm a telecom broker and actually had a customer on Verizon who had coverage everywhere, except his house and surrounding houses...but down the street was fine.
One thing to think about when you eliminate your landline is 911 service. Sometimes it's better to just reduce to a local plan only. There are also Voip services that have "E911" service.
