Carseat Installation Help

Hi-- Both my mom and I want to make sure my newborns carseat is installed correctly...with my firstborn, we took it to the fire department in Stow, but when we called to make an appointment, they said they no longer did this. Is there anywhere in Summit County or nearby we can take the carseats? I have an older car without the latch system, and my mom has a newer car. We are both pretty clueless. Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

Call Triple A.###-###-#### They will check it for you. I work for a social service agency that works w/moms and children and I always send them there.

I had always gone to the fire station, maybe call a few others to check. Also, in the city that I just moved from, the hospital where my kids were born actually did it. There was an appt line to call and then two parking spaces in the lot where you parked at your appt time, and someone came out an did it. I would call the hosp where your 3 week old was born and see if they do it or have advice on where does.

Hi!
Check here through your zip code:

I'm in the northern part of the county. I know there is one officer at the Macedonia Police Dept. that does it and 1 guy at the Northfield Fire Dept. For some reason, neither of these are listed on this site so I hope all this info is accutate. It did show Aurora F.D. if that isn't too far from you. I did mine myself as my friend is a tech at Fairview Hospital and showed me how to do it. A few weeks ago, the Safe Kids Coalition was doing seat checks at Spitzer on 82 and the tech there said I had a tighter install than she can usually get on my type of seat..that made me feel pretty good. I hope to get certified some day soon as car seat safety and installation is something I'm pretty passionate about.

Hello S.
I am new to the area so I can't tell you explicit where to go. But here some thoughts on where to start:
Fire Departments, other police stations, go to this web page and see if there is a car seat check up event in your area http://www.safekidsweb.org/events/events.asp . Another good one with a guaranted address is: www.seatcheck.org - they usually have several addresses for an area and they are commited to your kids safety. Some large car dealerships offer the service as well. I believe GM and Chrysler are into it. Just give them a call.
I have had my carseats checked every year to make sure that I had installed it the right way for the right size. Good Luck!
