Car Window Shades... Which One???

Driving through 11 states on our move in a couple weeks with non-tinted windows. I have a 2 year old and a 9 month old so I am very concerned about them possibly getting sunburned (which of course I will apply sunblock) or just having the sun in their eyes (hats won't work, my kids take them off as soon as they go on). I was wondering what you moms/dads recommend on window shades for backseat windows. I don't expect them to last long, but this is mainly to get us through the LONG road trip. The last ones we got were too small, so every turn we made I was reaching back to adjust the shades... ANNOYING! Oh, I have a Dodge Journey (it's a crossover) if that helps. I'm looking for something that is easy to apply, won't fall off and has good coverage of the window.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I've seen the window clings before, but wasn't sure if they were any good. We're looking for something inexpensive for now since we have strictly budgeted everything for our big move. We are looking to eventually tint the windows though :) Thank You for your help ladies!!!

The Eddie Bauer window cling "tint" has worked well for us and the hubby drives a 2500 Silverado. You can find it at Target and cut it to size/weird shaped window corners if needed. Otherwise, have you considered sunglasses? My daughter loves to wear hers like Mommy & Daddy--my preferred brand is Julbo (available at Amazon and Gatortots)

Have fun on your trip!

we would roll towels in the window and let them hang down. its a quick and easy thing to see if it will work for you. Good luck!

We also use the Eddie Bauer clings, sticks to the window well & is inexpensive (2 pack), but our oldest could reach it to pull it off, so you may have some trouble if your oldest can reach the window.

My girls also like to wear sunglasses, the oldest's favorite is Mommy's pair from the dollar store because they are the big, wrap around and are darker than the Gymboree ones.

I am not sure if money is an issue but it might be worth it to get the windows tinted especially if you are going to be in this car long term. I know we got 2 windows tinted on a minivan for $50. So if you got the back 3 windows tinted it would probably be less than $100. If you are going to do this call around to a few places because we found the prices were double depending on where you go.

Wal-mart sells very inexpensive window clings that work well. I have also read that the pull-down shades are a bad idea because they detach so easily they can become a dangerous projectile in a crash.

Hahaha, I remember this stage!
All the shades were so cheap and broke so easily we ended up securing beach towels and baby blankets onto the windows. I would hold it in place while my hubby rolled up the window.
It looked pretty white trash but it worked ;)

We always just put blankets in the windows-Just roll them down and stick just a itty bit of the blanket out and roll it back up. Worked like a charm...Plus the shade things we bought never stayed on the window so we just came up with our own idea!
