This really isn't a recommendation on a car seat. so, I'm sorry I'm hijacking your thread, here. But, there is a common misconception that I've seen time and time again. And, I felt it might be high time to address this in a public forum, to get the word out. While car seats give a weight and height guidline for safe use, these are not hard and fast numbers. I learned this when my son outgrew his infant car seat at 4 months of age. He was only about 15 pounds, and well within the height guidelines too. But, if you read the fine print of the manuals, it also says that the baby is not safe if the top of the car seat is within roughly a hand's width of the top of the baby's head, or if the baby's shoulders come above the top set of holes for the harness straps. My son just happened to have a long enough torso that this was an issue. And he didn't look particularly long either. As the matter of fact, most of the parents of the babies in his playgroup realized that same day that their children outgrew their seats too. One of the kids was only three months old, too. Honestly, if I ever have another child, I'm opting to get one of the convertable car seats right from the start.lol All of the time, I see babies in car seats they are too big for. I'm sure most of us are aware of these facts. But, if it keeps even one baby safer, then this post was worth it.
