I can still comfortably carry my 4 yr old on my back when I walk the dogs in an ergo.
I think preferring one to the other is like people choosing chevy or ford, nikon or cannon, etc
Go try them out and see which you like best.
Hi Ladies, I posted a baby carrier question awhile back, and now I have it narrowed down, but can't decide! My daughter is 10 1/2 months old and a big girl. I'm looking for a carrier that will last us the next year or so. Does anyone have any thoughts/comparisons between the Beco and Ergo? Thanks so much!

I had a classic Ergo and now have an Ergo Sport. (Would have kept using the classic, but it got destroyed by my animals. No fault of the carrier.) I loved the classic and love Sport even more. Sport is made of a more breathable material and I also prefer the contact not having fabric between me and baby. Seems to keep baby calmer, too.
I love my Ergo.
My three year old still gets carried in the Ergo. He loves it.
I used to wear him around the house so he could nap longer and I could clean...Those days are over, he is too heavy to do the bending and what not..but when we are out and in a huge crowd I am so happy he still loves the Ergo...makes keeping him close VERY easy:)
I have heard the Beco is just as nice and I think when you get down into comparing them it may only be a decision on style rather then which one is better:)
Both are good easy carriers. I prefer the beco over the ergo because it has a double lay the your baby goes between making it easier to transition between front and back and from person to person. Also, you don't need an infant insert in the beco (if you have another).
I loved my ERGO. Great Back Carrier also.
I had both. I liked them both but enjoyed the Ergo more. My friend bought my Beco and she liked it more. To note, my friend was shorter than me. Also, I feel the Ergo fits taller men better. So, if you want your husband to carry him in it, you might have an easier time in the Ergo. I took the Beco to Disney as I was able to fold it up smaller into the backpack. The Ergo is supposed to carry them up to a heavier weight. I still carried my 3 yr old on my back.
Haven't tried the Ergo, but did try the Beco Gemini and I LOVED it!
HTH!
