We are planning a Cancun vacation in January. Any advice, good or bad, on where to stay? or what to look for?

What can I do next?

Hands down do go to the Moon Palace. I cannot believe anyone would give the Palace all inclusives resorts a bad review. My husband and I have been to the Moon Palace three times, and would definitely go back again. Any of the palace resorts you stay at you can eat and play at all the other locations. The moon and beach palace resorts are so kid friendly and adult friendly. Highly recommend. 5 star service, ammenities etc...

Hope it helps,
C.

My grandparents use to have a two week time share in CanCun the last two weeks of January. We stayed at the Royal Carribbean and it was wonderful. My dad also owns two weeks at the Royal Mayan and that is great too. There are so many fun things to do while in Cancun. We visited the Myan Ruins and did some snorkeling. The bus drivers are a bit crazy so be make sure you are either holding on tight or sitting in a seat!!! If you exchange your money it isn't always a good idea to do so at the airport b/c they usually have the lowest exchange rate. The hotels usually have a the going exchange rate. if you like Margaritas I suggest the La Distilleria. It is across from the Kuklucan Mall and they have the best blended margaritas I have ever had. Hope this info helps you out. Have a Great Trip:)

Before we had kids, (before i got married) my family and I would always go jan/feb timeframe. we stayed at the Royal Myan, Royal carribean, and the Royal Sands. My grandparents now own time shares at all three.
The resorts had great food, good accomidations, lots of packages, and all were beachfront property. Bonus if you were staying at one Royal you can go to all the Royals. There was ceramic painting at all of them so you can go an paint something and pay for what you painted and then they would glaze and accent it for you. I have lots of little bolws and turtle dishes, some fish, a sun that hangs on the patio *after almost 10 years* it still looks great.
There are also great things close to the resorts, like nice resturants and dive shops, tour boats (tours can be set up through the resort, and sometimes were cheaper that way)
We also did alot of the aniect tours, we went to Xkatra(ish-ka-tera),(spelling might be off) The Mayan temples, Xelha (shell-ha) I had a great time, every year and looked forward to the next year. We are planning one for 2010, and we will be taking the boys to that one. I just want them to be old enough where I can enjoy it as much as they do.

Cancun is a really good party spot (usually for spring breakers, so jan. may not be a bad time to go)Cozmel is more family oriented, if you are taking children along.

I went to Cancun in 2001 and stayed at the Cancun Palace. Its a huge hotel with a friendly entertainment staff, excellent service, wonderful food and you can visit their sister hotels. I believe there were 3 or 4 of them (Sun Palace, Moon Palace just to name a few). Its been so long I can't remember all the names. I stayed there for a week and the hotel staff took the time to know our names and remember who we were. (Which is big because it was during Spring Break!) The rooms were spacious and you had the option of an ocean view or a city view. You also have the option for a room with a jacuzzi inside, a balcony, or both.

I hope this helps!

I use to work for Hyatt. They had two hotels there. One was gorgous and on the beach. The other was even more beautiful but didn't have a beach. You could use the beach of the other one. I would check them out. I think one was a regency the other was the caribe or something of that nature. They were wonderful hotels though.

Take a day and go to Cozumel!!! Take the boat from Playa Del Carmen. Don't spend all your time on the touristy square, take a cab to the National Park (great beach!!) or rent cars and drive to the other side of the island where the cruise ship tourists never go. The Bob Marley Bar is fantastic! You can eat lobster and sit in hammocks on the beach drinking margaritas all day:)
Have a fantastic time!

We stayed at Le Meridien Cancun Resort & Spa. www.lemeridien.com It was amazing. It's a smaller resort hotel so not so much hustle and bussle. They have 3 beautiful infinity pools that over look the ocean. All the rooms are angled so each room has a view of the ocean out the balcony. The staff was incredible. Ready with orange juice and cool face towels the minute you enter the building. They remembered our name and room number and said hello every time we saw them. It was awesome. We would definitely stay again.

It's not all-inclusive if that is one of your main objectives. And I would recommend doing the breakfast room service! It's cheaper then going to the buffet, you get a ton of food and they bring it to you! What could be better. Very convient to the buses which everyone takes to get to downtown, La Isla Mujeres (great to see the giant turtles) or resturants. Watch out for the crazy bus drivers. They drive FAST!

Have fun. I'm envious. I want to go back.

We stayed at Occidental on Cozumel (island off Cancun) last fall and it was excellent. Relatively cheap ($2300) for two of us for a week....all food and drinks included. Staff was excellent and accomodations were spotless.

My sister and I went on a all girls trip to Cancun early last year and we had a great time. They like to party there all night long. I can't remember the name of the hotel we stayed at but it(the room) was terrible. You will really enjoy it. Try to get a hotel right on the strip. There is a club called Senior Frogs that you will really enjoy. You have to participate in a lot of different dances and activities with the workers. Kids can go until like 9:00 p.m. them after that it's all adults. And Honey the men there are like Oh My God.

My husband and I stayed at the Cancun Palace. It is an all-inclusive, but you can go to anyof the Palace resorts to eat and drink. We stayed mainly at the resort and had a blast. The best thing that we did was the dolphins excursion. It was wonderful swimming with such beasutiful mammals. Have fun.

Do not go to Moon Palace. We were there for a wedding and had a horrible experience. It is FAR TOO BIG! Like a small city. Make sure wherever you go is recovered from last year's hurricane too.
