If you were pregnant and didn't know it, would continuing to take birth control pills while pregnant harm your baby?

I took the pill for a few weeks before I knew I was pregnant with my first. It's probably not a great idea, as in one shouldn't do it intentionally without a doctor's orders. But if you just found out you are pregnant and you have been taking the pill...stop, and then relax, there's nothing you can do to change it anyway and odds are, everything will be fine.

I was on the pill when I got pregnant, and continued to take it for about ssix weeks, not realizing that I was pregnant. Didn't do any harm.

A good question, but one to ask your gynecologist. Call him or her today. The nurses at the ob/gyn office can answer these kinds of questions too. Also, your own ob/gyn knows what type of pill you're using and will know more about its effects. Don't go by what you see in a forum -- ask the doctor.

Read the package insert that comes with your pills. Be reassured. The answer is NO, continuing to take birth control pills after you are pregnant will harm your baby and will not terminate the pregnancy.

You also cannot cause a miscarriage of an already implanted embyo by taking a high dose of birth control pills.

Emergency contraceptives like Plan B do not allow the fertilized egg to implant into the uterus. But once that fertilized egg implants into the uterus, Plan B will not work.

Unlikely. But ask your dr., so you have peace of mind.

Talk to your doctor about his one. While I don't see the regular dose doing any real harm, I do know that back before they had plan B/morning after pills they used to have you take 3 regular pills a day for 5 days to help prevent implantation.
