We went to Peace River , down by Bradenton a couple of times. It was big and lots to do - we kayaked, etc. Kayaking is right there...you can just walk over and go from there!
My husband and I have finally bought our first camper after renting a few times. We usually camp at state park campgrounds but during holiday weekends they fill up so fast. So I was wondering if anyone can recommend some private campgrounds within an hour/hour & half drive of St. Pete, besides KOA. We have two boys, 11 and 8 so a family friendly campground is a must.
Thanks so much for suggestions,
C.
Thanks for the suggestions. They all sound good. I think we'll check them out!

Hi C.,
My family has been camping at Disney for many many years. They have lots to do at no additional cost, a family outdoor movie each night, fishing, pools, a petting zoo. You can also pay to horse back ride and take boats out. There is lots to do at Disney for no cost without going into a park. There camp ground is called Fort Wilderness, they have tent sites, camper sites, RV sites and what they call Wilderness Homes (which are supposed to be log cabins). There number for everything Disney is 1 407 W Disney. Good luck!
Our Friends love Sun & Fun in Sarasota. Its a little farther than 30 minutes but they love it out there. So much to do.
C.,
Congrats on the new camper! We love camping and have been going since before we had kids. Now that we have the girls we have enjoyed it even more. Some of our favorite spots are:
Tropical Palms in Kissimmee
(http://www.tropicalpalmsrv.com/) they are VERY close to Disney and a lot cheaper, lots of kids are always there and they have a great pool area too!
Rock Crusher Canyon in Crystal River
(http://www.rockcrushercanyon.com/) great park with a nice pool area and plenty of places to fish and ride bikes!
Have Fun!
C.
