Burned Upper Stomach After Eating Really Hot Food

Few days ago I ate some baked potatoes right after I took them from the oven and it hurt like hell when it passed through the upper stomach. Next day I had bad GERD and a bit of pain in the upper stomach right after I swallowed food. Now, 3 days later, I still feel a bit of pain in that area when I am eating hard or hot food. I hope it will heal in few days but any insight on this matter or home remedies that can speed up the healing process are highly appreciated. Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I have heartburn as well and take zantac 2 times/day...I know it was foolish of me to eat that bit of potato that hot, and I always swear it won't happen again, but I guess I am more prone to this type of accidents...I do not look for attention, sorry if I offense anybody!

Time for a raw foods approach to eating.

As per Doris Day, have you considered Munchausen syndrome?

You seem to have a lot of health complaints. Like Julie S, I am puzzled as to why you would eat hot foods over and over and hurt yourself. Why would you do that? Common sense teaches us not to make the same mistake twice. You don't seem to be using common sense.

Sometimes people use their health problems as a way to get attention or try to get people to feel sorry for them. Please think about if this is what you are doing. Is your health what you usually talk about with people? If so, you really need to explore what is missing in your life that you do this.

If you just have no one else to talk to about your health and you don't want to burden your family or friends, that's a different thing. However, learn from your mistakes. It's just plain foolish not to.

"Hi there,
Two night ago I ate some roasted potatoes right after I took them out the oven and it seems I got a burn on the roof of my mouth. I did not realize when it happened but the following morning when it may have gotten aggravated by the use of Halls lozenges as I've had a sore throat as well. All in all, it's 48 hrs later, it seems a little bit better than yesterday but it's still painful when I eat almost anything. Does any of you know of any remedies that will speed up the healing process? Thanks."

None of those answers helped?

I am starting to believe none of your questions are real. Who keeps eating hot potatoes over and over and posting about it?

Stop eating foods so hot they burn your mouth, tongue and "upper stomach."

Did you not learn the first time???

I would think you would burn your mouth again, not your 'upper stomach.'

Unless you swallowed the potatoes relatively whole, with little chewing, and the heat and steam release and burned you that low.??? What do you think?

In the meantime, eat a diet with a low Ph, like cottage cheese, avocados, no citrus, no caffeine.

You do realize that once you eat food or drink anything,, of any temperature, it all becomes the same temperature in your stomach?

Ice water or hot potatoes.. all the same temperature in your body?

Are you sure it is not heartburn? That is the acids in your stomach backing up?

Speak with your doctor.

I think you had better stop eating potatoes if you can't figure out how to blow on them first (or add some butter and sour cream!) Here's your post from Oct. 23:

I think the hot potatoe just revealed the problem, not made the problem. If it were hot enough to hurt your stomach, you would not have been able to get it in your mouth. Your tongue might burn but not your stomach.

You need to go see a doc quickly so that you don't get bleeding from your stomach. I suspect an ulcer. That's too big a risk to take with over the counter stuff.

Home remedies? You've incinerated a portion of your digestive tract and you want strangers to determine the course of action necessary for your recovery?-Ok-bland diet, no heated food or drink, liquid acetaminophen, only as directed. Cool liquids, best not to eat, if you can help it. didn't you just do this same thing in October? Seek medical attention immediately!!!

Even a preschooler knows to blow on hot food until it's cool prior to eating it. Do you have some sort of eating disorder that causes you to swallow potatoes without chewing them first?
